I have a TA Arcmaster 185 tig welder. I have tried welding razor blades a few times but every time, the welder after a few seconds gives a surge of current & I blow a hole through the blades. No matter how low/hi the current is set. Tried blades on steel table, on aluminium plate, on copper plate, etc. SS blades, CK pencil '9' air cooled torch. Hi and low argon settings. Always the same, Prolly me mostly, anyone with a 185 and suggestions? (Tried the "touch & lift" function to start weld, = same)
(I just think its cool/would be cool to weld razor blades together!) (I'm retired with lots o' free time!)

It is very cool to weld razor blades and aluminum pop cans together! Are you using pulse?

You didn't say what your parameters were but you need to use a very small tungsten (1/16th") sharpened to a very long point otherwise you will get that current spike because of the resistance of small voltage to flow over a thicker tungsten. I managed to use a 3/32" tungsten by sharpening it to a point about an inch long. When welding pop cans, you MUST start your arc on the filler rod or you will just blow holes all day. Small amps+ Small tungsten.

Lol, I went through a lot of pop cans before I figure out to light up on the filler. Even if it's not the prettiest tack, you need that little bit of glob to get it started.
And as us boy's from the Land of Lincoln say, the correct terminology is pop not soda

I've not tried welding cans, but I think I'd avoid the terminology fuss, and just weld beer cans.
...or does Illinois call that, "barley pop"?

On the regional name theme, here in southern LA, you hear several terms, including "soda" and "pop", but the two big regional names are "cold drink", and "coke", with "coke" intentionally not capitalized... You might be asked, "What kind of coke do you want?", and Dr. Pepper is a perfectly acceptable answer.

Auggie Busch's empire was built from sales across the river lol
First time I was in LA, I went in a little restaurant and told them I didn't want mayo on my burger, little girl looked at me like I just farted.
And the whole tea thing, sweet, un-sweet (that is still sweet), no sugar, felt like a boolean equation, I just couldn't ever line up the ones and zero's right and always ended up with something sweet.

LOL! "No Mayo" down here labels you a freak, in a city that's had a drag queen parade longer than SanFran has had "gay pride".
Mayo has it's own little Ford/Chevy war, here, as well. There have been fist fights over Duke's vs. Blue Plate.

I also think it's funny, and says something about the MSM, that SanFran's gay pride parade makes the national news, while all of NOLA's gay or drag queen events are "just another day".

Two of my most memorable arrests as a LEO , was (a) A 400 pound guy with no legs in a strip club for disorderly conduct, wheelchair hanging out of the Crown Vic trunk all the way to book in and (b) A transgender fellow/gal in see through lingerie for domestic battery. Top half had surgery, bottom half still stock equipment.

I worked in NOLA 2 weeks after Katrina came through. Was there for 8 months and spent alot of time on Bourbon St. WOW....everytime I hear the song "Momma told me not to come" I immediately get flashbacks
Remember that scene in Crocodile Dundee where he grabbed the girls crotch "just to be sure"? Good advice in NOLA or Key West!

My most memorable Bourbon Street moment: out of the blue a girl walks up and says "I'll sleep with you if you help me get home." She was looking disheveled and may have needed the help, but I figured it was some kind of scam and declined.

If you can weld razor blades together you can get any woman on Bourbon, Duval or Rush is what I heard.

If you can TIG weld aluminum you can get women and will become fabulously wealthy. That's what I was toldDLewis0289 wrote:If you can weld razor blades together you can get any woman on Bourbon, Duval or Rush is what I heard.
