So I have a porter cable 14" abrasive cut off saw. Can I simply change the blade to Carbide or are those saws different in some way?

You will ruin the $100+ blade in about 3 cuts.
Your saw is over 3500rpm, the dry cut saws that the carbide blades are to go on, run around 1400-1800rpm.
Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.
