Welding Tips and Tricks

Hi Folks,
I am embarking on a new project welding aluminium and I need help. Got the Argon, gun all set up. The miller have good machines but the manual is very restricted when it comes to TIG. I am welding 3mm thick Aluminium plate and will be doing some same size tubing as well. The tungsten was cleaned and sharpened as per requirement but I strike it was trying to make an arc and when it did, it was not tacking at all. The tungsten was turning red hot and burning fast. The gas was all fine. What is the best setting to weld aluminium? Is it easy?

I found this product literature for the 280 version https://www.millerwelds.com/~/media/mil ... c29-55.pdf and I see in the specs that it is DC only. It is apparently not impossible to weld aluminium with DC but you will be setting yourself a challenge.

To get the correct manual go to https://www.millerwelds.com/support/manuals-and-parts and input the serial number. There are 4 different manuals depending on the serial number.

Thanks Ralph. I had a look at the pdfs and it looks like it will hard to do. Just wondering if anyone else tried it
