Can't weld

I am very disappointed. Due to complications from my spinal cord injury, my doctor has ordered that I stay out of my wheelchair and essentially be bedridden for 4 to 6 weeks :cry:
I guess i wont be testing my new 280DX right away. I will have lots of time to haunt the forum though. MUAHAHAHA!!

That might just be a blessing in disguise. Look at all the time you can spend researching welding topics or theory. You will be able to not only "haunt" the forum but you will be able to start topics to get us all thinking and doing research.

AND....since you won't need that Dynasty for a while, you can just ship it to me and I will keep the motor warm for you. ;)

First,
What complications? Why does the Doc want you on your back?

Second,
Have you worked out that overhead crane system that may help you maneuver around your shop? A reclining sling is as good as a chair...

I have what's called a pressure sore that isn't healing properly. I have to stay lying on my side as much as possible and not sit until the sore heals. A Home Health nurse will be visiting me daily for a month to change dressing etc. I hope she's cute at least ;)

Haven't worked out that overhead crane system yet but I'll have plenty of time to think about it and sketch ideas now.

@superiorwelding

I thought about your offer to keep my machine warm, and as tempting as that is, alas the freight cost is prohibitive lol. Seriously, though, I appreciate a good chuckle. :lol:

See if you can come up with the overhead crane design and show the Dr. how beneficial it will be to take a load off your spine, with the proper harness. Then, have him write a prescription for it as durable medical goods!

Hope you recover soon and get back into the shop.

That's F%^&ing brilliant! Ther are existing "suspended mobility systems" to help para- and quadraplegics into and out of baths and bed. An appropriate suspension that would favor your bedsore (chairsore?), or a general mobility aid, could be qualified as "durable medical goods". Though the X/Y/Z system is still on you, you could get the "chair" covered under insurance and have a proper support medically approved...

Ah, very scenic up that way. The whole Arizona / Utah border is amazingly scenic geology; hardly the desert most folks picture for AZ, and a far sight colder in the winter than I care for. :D

I did a road trip / photo tour of national parks this time last year, starting at Zion. Only made it to 4 parks before the federal shutdown on 10/1. Had to improvise for the rest of the trip, but it turned out great in spite of the politicians.

Cheers,
Richard
