Urgent advice needed

Hi, We are building a drum for a highspeed mulcher (1850 rpm). Drum has 270mm diameter and is 1.8m long- wall thickness of 40mm. Blade holders (60mm thick) will be welded onto drum in a double spiral. There will be 22 x 12mm rings separating the 21 blade holders. Can anyone pls make an informed suggestion to the sequence that we need to follow while welding the above. We are very concerned about the amount of distortion that will be present if welded incorrectly. The completed drum will be sent for stress relieving and balancing. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Berend Elbrecht (RSA)

Berend, can you submit a drawing of the (simple sketch) with items listed as in your post? I would suggest back-step welding technique with the addition of alternating welds from one end and opposite sides of attachments to reduce or eliminate distortion. I may also suggest a temporary internal support system to hold the drum concentric.
Where in RSA are you?
John

Hi John, thanks for the interest in this project. I am from Tzaneen in Limpopo. There is 2 pics of the drum halfway tacked together. Your advice is much appreciated.
