What would be the best mig wire or tig filler rod for welding 5160, 1070 or 1080 to A36 or 1018 steel?
I have been finding a lot about preheat and post heat but not finding any specifics on filler material.
I have a Hobart Ironman 230 with Lincoln Super Arc L-56 in it right now.
Thank You
General welding questions that dont fit in TIG, MIG, Stick, or Certification etc.
That’s because the biggest difference between your two metals is going to be pre heat post heat and annealing. Use any steel wire but if you ignore the brittle effects of the high carbon to low carbon weld and it will fail before it cools. With stick or tig your best bet would be a 309 wire for dissimilar steel.
I have more questions than answers
