Kemppi Tig welder. Anyone used one??

Hi, have seen a mate of mines and looks compact and powerful. Didn't get a chance to try it out, he says it's great. As he spent a load of money on it he would have to be happy with it ;)
I'm mainly stuck using a Chinese tig unit that is sufficient for the amount of welding we do, but have a miller syncrowave sitting there gathering dust waiting for the boss to get the 3phase connected.
The kemppi might be a cheaper option for me to get as a home welder and was wondering if so of you with a bit more experience than a self taught beginner had any use out of one??
Your experiences would be appreciated. We use a kemppi mig at work and very happy with it's performance. I have a cebora mig at home that is a good powerful unit that is compact too. My wish list contains a miller dynasty so need to see which is closer to my reach.

Hey there,
We use Kemppi MasterTig 250s at work, They are alright but they are as dear as hell, Around $2500++ Australian for a 3 phase DC only one. Plus the parts cost a shit load as well, An 8 meter air cooled torch was about $800. And some bits cannot be replaced, crimped on to cables and what not, meaning the whole torch had to go in the bin. Check out Everlast, They have some sweet machines. And you can get a AC/DC one less than the price of the afore mentioned Kemppi.

Jody has done some reviews of Everlast products on this site.

Hope this helps.
Regards
Mick

Thanks Mick that is a great help. Been looking into them a bit more and found that they are the same price as a Miller unit anyway so would most probably look at them closer in the flesh before making my final decision. Have not been able to find a stockist of Everlast equipment in the UK so can't compare UK prices with those units yet. Would definitely consider the Everlast as the video showed it would do everything I would need it for.

Thanks again.

Hey there,

No worries, the main thing to be careful of is that, if you are gonna lay down mega dollars for a welder, that you are able to make use all its features. Whats the point of paying for something you will never use. The Kempiis have all sorts of programs and settings that you may never need. I know about the old line "If you need it and don't have it" but somethings can be done with out. Especially if you can get a welder that does the work with out the bells and whistles. Miller has the Diversion 180, which is a low cost, entry level AC DC tig with a lot of setting pre programed. Jody did a review of it. Check it out if you can't find Everlast. I think they(Everlast) are looking for suppliers so maybe you could be the first UK one.

Good luck.
PS I could rave on all day about this so I'd better stop now. :D
