To my Ozzie mates:
Anyone know where to get a decent wood handle chipping hammer in this wide brown land?
Tired of the spring handle but its hard to get anything else. There are bamboo cast hammers out there on ebay etc, I want a good one.

Does anyone down there deal in Estwing hammers?

I think I can get one like this here Josh. hasn't got a wooden handle though.

Atlas makes a nice wooden handle chipping hammer. I have one of them and an Estwing. The Estwing is piece of art.

Thanks, I was just looking at the Lenco range, they have full wood handle hammers too. Checking availability and prices.
Alot of time wasted researching hammers. Used to be able to go the the shop and buy something good. Now it's all hidden while they push junk.
Shop assistants are all smart types too, "spring handle is best - no vibration" . That's if you peck and hammer, try raking with one you jerk is the answer they get from me.

That's one version of the Atlas. Unless you lose an Estwing, it's a lifetime investment.

Till some duffus used it to knock holes in old refer tanks. They busted it. I had to grab a springy one from the shop short term. But I used another guys Estwing, and that’s what I’m getting as soon as the springy one frustrates me enough I throw it farther than I care to walk to get it back.

Only downside to the Estwing is if your in the habit of using the end of your handle to push on something as you tack it.

I have an estwing , very very efficient


But I also did see that modified half round metal file, (with some triangular "teeth" on the sides) , on some videos by Jody, and made me a similar one

really good to chip the foot of the bead , as it seem to me that often if the slag is restrained it is from there.

The hardness of the steel of the chipping hammer makes half of the job generally speaking, I think.

What I do not like with the hammer with "spring" handle, is that it is hard on the wrist, because you do not drive the hammer as if it was fixed, it moves, I suppose it is to help the hammer to knock and rebound, but I do not like the feel too much (plus mine is done in modeling paste, I was always filing it (very cheap model possibly )

The LWS who said the Estwing was in stock told me it was actually 4 days and price was $66 ozzie bones. I said I'll try something else first.

If it breaks I'll but an Estwing. Works good so far, happy with it.
