What's the best way to weld an axle stub to an axle tube? Stub is square and slides in the tube. Drill holes in tube and plug weld, One continuous bead around tube or a series of short welds around the tube?

Both.

I drilled holes through the tube and did plug welds
Then I welded around the end of the tube.

I used a total of 8 plug welds on each end.
