General welding questions that dont fit in TIG, MIG, Stick, or Certification etc.

I am looking for anyone with experience with this machine. I bought it at an auction and if doesn't generate power. Does anyone have experience working on one or experience with the machine?
It's always best to build your own, especially when it comes to hitches!!!

I've used a couple of 55D's. They ran great but I did kill one and they had to send it into a repair place to rebuild it. Think it dose a couple of grand to rebuild. On th electrical side.
I have more questions than answers

Matt, when you say it doesn't generate power, do you mean it won't weld, or it has no auxiliary electric (110/220)?

Often, no 110/220 is as simple as replacing brushes on the slip-rings for that side of things.

Doesn't weld or generate auxiliary power

Studying the wiring diagram in the manual here:

Shows three brushes on slip rings, with one common to both weld and aux. power. That's where I'd check first.

The exploded view is on page six of the "parts list", near the end of the .pdf

Thanks Steve, I bought the machine at a farm auction a year ago for $165 and it runs great, just don't make electric.

things i would figure out and test

1. are the brushes bad.. or corroded..
2 Bad wiring connections? corrosion broken wires.. stuff disconnected
3. how dose it regulate voltage for the AC output.. regulator.. RPM.. ect ect sounds dumb i know but it might be a issue.
4. is it a Self exciting Alternator or dose it use battery current for this.. if so is it getting voltage to excite the alternator..
5. is there any bad switches or relays that could be not working this leaving it OFF.. sounds dumb but my 2E has separate weld vs Power modes and it possible that if the switch was broken neither could work.. as it may have 2 different relays to activate these modes..
6. probably the hardest to check with out the help of someone who knows how to test this..Are the windings bad in the alternator.. if so it could be shorting out on itself..
