In my experience cheap meters are usually accurate, but lack the CAT rating for working on electrical panels. They are a serious hazard when working on a high power distribution panel.

Ps. Rms stands for root mean squared.
It's a better representation of the effective value.

What I am calling "amprobe" is an Amprobe clamp-on ammeter. It is the one with the yellow jaws; the one with the orange jaws is the Ames ammeter that Harbor Freight sells. I don't know what you have, but I know that I have a cheaper version of those ammeters, which I use to read AC/DC amperage.

I wasn't sure, although I knew it wasn't from HF, I've owned it before HF was on the map.

It's like my wife, "Made in Japan".
Looks like the dolt that used it last left it on, or it got knocked on in the toolbox...either way it's gonna need some new batteries.

As a bonus, I've been looking for a small paper bag that was under the meter in the toolbox, 2 x 60 grit, 2 x 120 grit and 2 x scotch brite type pads with an arbor for a die grinder. I bought these from my LWS about a year ago and have not been able to find them. I guess thanks are in order for getting me to go get a pic of the meter!

It's cause I have so much crap I can't keep track of it all...lathe and mill tooling is probably the worst, I need to inventory that stuff...

Lucky my meter wasn't a Vulcan or something like that...(although Vulcan didn't exist back when I got it). I would have really been eating crow had that been the case...

I can certainly live with a Japanese meter, don't find those too often anymore!
