Unless you cant see or don´t know how to turn a dial then it can be difficult you are one shaky SOB. And who called it Mig since this is technically wrong and should be MAG or GMAW since the gas isnt inert. I dont really care but who decided on this?

It's MAG if you use mix or co2. MIG if you use inert like for aluminum or ss ;)

Yes, you can run mix for SS too so don't mark words on me there....

No matter what it is called...you could teach a monkey how to do it. I know monkeys mig weld because I have repaired alot of their work. They can't seem to understand crater cracks or penetration either.

See the difference though Jeff, they can mig weld, but it doenst mean they are any good. Its like this guy in a metals class. He goes around saying ¨Im gonna be a welder, look at these welds.¨ He shows you the one inch of good weld with a 6011 and I look at the others and I have seen shooting targets with less holes. And you hear the welder humming really hard or stopping every two seconds. Everyone can weld. Doesnt mean they are any good.

...you're afraid of flying and take a 100 feet of welding lead with you. If the plane starts to go down you can throw it out. It's sure to hang up on something.

Shooting targets with less holes  I literally taught my son how to mig weld in about an hour...he stopped over ON HIS WAY to a job interview and I showed him a few things, he went to his interview, took a welding test and passed! Granted it was a hack and tack outfit but he passed. There is a lesson for you. The good money is in Tig welding. Along with Tig knowledge comes a bit of metallurgy and pride of precision work. Mig is hot glue that will give you a tan.

Thats no lie...try being careful with your leads and other cords so they don't get tangled and then try rolling it up for the day and everything will be twisted in knots and tangled. I always say out loud that if I was falling off a cliff and wanted my cords to tangle, it wouldn't happen, but cords just want to heavy pet and grind I think. I can't think of any other explanation.

I was teaching a a fellow student how to weld with self shielded flux core today. I told them the basics, gun angle, CTWD, and then ran a couple beads to watch the arc and the pattern(they were pretty decent to,surprising how much you get with 130 amps) I go back to running some stick for practice and all of a sudden he stops. Sure enough welded the contact tip and bird nested about 7 ft of wire. Got that done and I decided to watch him. Now before I showed him I made sure he had mig welded before and he said yes and he was pretty good. I took his word for it, but when he started the arc I couldnt believe my eyes. He started at point A for about .1 seconds them whipped the gun over to point D 2 inches away and went back to point B and all the while not even hitting the top plate in his lap joint. I guess the world takes all sorts of people to run. Just hope Im never following his trailer sometime soon.

I had a guy bring his farm tractor over so I could weld a hook on the back of the bucket. I clean off a spot, turn the fire up on the 252 and weld his hook on. He asks me how long it needs to "set up"and how long it would be before he could use it. I had to pause for a second to figure out if he was messing with me. I proceeded to tell him he could use it now and he said he always heard that a weld had to "set up" for awhile. He was a truck driver for IDOT for 30 years...that sorta explains it.

I think the thought just "pooped" into his head. I wonder what the "fee" was on the straw posing as filler wire. :o

Nope stay away from the alcoholic beverages. And as to where I'm from, that would be Beloit area. We are also referred to as Betroit. We are probably more ghetto than the south side of Chicago. Luckily I don't live in the city and am of the more rural area.

Well Jeff, you may be somewhat accurate but we have proportionately the same number of gangs, murders, and crappy housing. That's why I go to Minnesota over the summer. Western Minnesota is open and full of work.
