I am new to welding and am using Flux Core. I've watched countless videos where depending on who you're watching they say (using a lap joint as an example) to work from left to right or, conversely, right to left. I believe Lincoln is absolutely adamant about working left to right.
So all that said, what's the consensus? Given the differences in opinions does it matter? I'm right handed, btw.
Thanks,
Lyman

Hey Lyman.
Is the question 'left or right' or 'push or drag?'
There is an old rule of thumb "Where there is slag, drag". In my own very limited experience with flux welding, this rule of thumb has worked well for me. But I'm sure someone with much more experience will chime in shortly.

Flux core is a drag wire. I.E. You point the gun towards the puddle but pull the gun along ahead of your direction of travel. That's not set in stone you can push it in some cases depending on material, wire, and experience. But asking a guy if he drags left or right is like asking what hand does he put on the wall over the toilet in the morning.
I have more questions than answers

Thanks Kym. I was at Miller's site and they're equally adamant that you drag and not push. Appreciate the input, thank you!MosquitoMoto wrote:Hey Lyman.
