I was wondering if anyone knew where to get some larger diameter round stock in a shorter length (without buying 24feet of it) ideally to make a hammer like Jody has in one of his videos, need bot handle and head, and about a 8-10" diameter round stock for a personal project (more or less doesn't matter much, but it would need to be about 14- 18inches long).

Not sure the exact dimensions of the hammer that Jody made, but if you know where to get some larger diameter round stock it would be a great help, the 8-10"iameter round stock is more for fun than necessity, but I would really like to build the hammer.

If location would help anyone who might have an idea where to get the material, I live near Montreal Quebec

Not sure the price of round stock for carbon steel but if you guys got an estimate. That would be very appreciated

Thanks for the help

I saw that hammer video recently too. That sounds like a visit to the local steel supplier, and ask for a drop, the cut-off end of that 24 foot stick. Another option there is an online steel supplier such as OnlineMetals.com, but I'm aware the shipping into Canada can be expensive- I wonder if there's a Canada-based online supplier?

No ideas for the 8-10" diameter round stock. What is your plan for a chunk of steel like that? Would a pipe do the job?

A pipe might be better, and I'll just cover the end, I plan on making just something cool to look at similar to

I have some 1/4 inch 7018 that would make that bark easily. Puts down a 3/4 inch stringer bead

do you think a pipe would look as nice? if i cover both ends with a plate, tig weld them then grind it smooth, would it be a good idea instead of the round stock?

thanks

If you cut the plate to fit the ID of the pipe (with a bevel for penetration) then I think you could do it.
