here ya go guys this is my first set of welds with the new helmet. Stick welding 6010 rod. I could've cleaned it up Better but no phones in the shop. . Lol I had to be quick and discreet.

I like it a lot it has a bigger viewing area than most of the ones I've seen in class and is way more comfy than the school supplied cheapo most guys have. I mean it works. I really like it. I cant wait to get the digital elite. Also another bit of good news a friend of mine's dad owns a heavy machinery rental business. She says they're looking for a few welders for summer. I told her to make sure he knows im a first semester student and not a pro. She said they would have me work with an experienced guy for a few weeks to get acclimated to the way they do things. Plus im a certified forklift driver already so she said I could do that when im not welding or training. so I may Have a gig lined up. Id prefer this over the dry dock just because itll be a mix of different things to weld vs patching hulls all day. Fingers crossed.

4.5 by 5.25 fixed shade is what i use 75% of the time, 11 gold.

My dad has the digital elite and i use it in my shop when I'm to lazy to get my hood out of the truck. Its a good hood. If you get the gig doing heavy equipment repairs you should be able to learn quite a bit. One of the cool ones is preheat post heat and welding of cast iron but then there is hard facing which is very monotonous. Best of luck to you.

ok so 1st semester is finally over and after getting some hours in this helmet and trying a few others i think this is all i will need. I even decided agains purchasing the digital elite in favor of my cheap little mp10. i really like it nice and comfy and works just fine. Not to mention takes abuse like a champ ive thrown it at least twice in frustration. lol. heres a few welds and the helmet in its current state... also the first time lighting my pants on fire followed by the aftermath lol... i was scrolling through pics n saw em. figured why in the hell not.

yeah man ive burned myself pretty good a few times already. Yes it is 7018 i couldve cleaned it up better for the pic but. the other two are vertical up mig. butt and t joints. I honestly had some way better welds but these are the only pics i have.

Yeah i took those pics to send em to someone not particularly because i was proud of em. i had some i was proud of but never took any pics. Maybe next semester ill remember to document the good stuff. That 7018 was super easy to me. it just felt right ..

It runs itself, fills its own own undercut, and chips itself....

My best advice to him is never touch 6013....

Yes - don't touch the 6013 ! - it's " the dark side " listen to what AK tells you & you too can become a 7018 Jedi master ! - " Luke use the ( arc ) force " !!!

lmfao ive welded in all positions other than while doing a handstand. the instructors did a lot of encouraging us to get as comfortable as possible. i mean guys building rigs to make any weld exactly where they want it and to the easiest height etc.etc. i just did em right off the table even did some to make myself more uncomfortable. i figured i might as well get used to it now rather than pamper myself and be a crybaby the first day on the job cause they wont let me sit down and build a rig to weld in my lap lol. ill go get some material soon and make stuff and show u guys.

Back to the topic....anyone else here tried the Jackson Balder yet? I tried it when it came out and chose the Truesight instead. Now I want another helmet and am reconsidering the Balder.
