Hi all, new here, a customer is having us extend a masonry bit. It is a 3/4 shank for an SDS hammer drill. I drilled a piece of solid 1" 1018 and shrunk fit it and welded it with UTP rod with a little preheat and put it sand to cool.
What is the " proper way " to do this?
Thanks - A

for extending drill bits i use a length of round stock approxamatly the same diameter as the drill shank then use a cut off wheel to slice the shank between the drill flutes and the adaptor contours that go into the hammer-drill then lay all in the "v" of a angle iron held in a vice then clamp with a c clamp vise grip and tack with 7018. remove and check for trueness then weld and wrap in old welding gloves when finished so it cools slowly.
