So if anyone hasn't run into the Repair and Maintenance Welding Handbook from ESAB then it is worth a look.
It mainly gives consumable advice, though most sections have technique hints and other useful information. Largely covers welding of wear parts for industrial machinery, with entries on hard to weld materials, castings, etc. Obviously it recommends ESAB consumables, but you can just cross reference their website for compositions.
Can get a copy of the second edition as a .pdf pretty easily using a search engine,not sure how else to get one, there is a legitimate link but it is dead sadly.

What a coincidence I was reading that yesterday.
It is quite good. It answered some questions I had about austenitic manganese steel and other hard to weld metals.
Those hardfacing rods are a mess with so many different types.
I hate it when companies give their own names to rods.
