I'm not sure what you mean by a fully open corner joint. Btw it is a 1/8" thick 1"x2" aluminum tubing.
Something like this?

Which joint would be stronger?
Which joint would be stronger? I know which would look nicer but is there a difference in the strength? I'm building a cart that will be 2'D X 4'W X 3.5'H. Bottom frame will be 1"x2" aluminum 6061 T6.

Re: Looking to buy metal saw..
I just bought the IronTon. The price was right. $299 out the door with free shipping from Northern Tools. I haven't really started using it much. I made two cuts with it on piece of steel a friend gave to to weld on a post for him. It seems to cut pretty good. The cuts but up pretty nicely. I wouldn...

Re: DIY Tig Cooler Question
I meant to write about the cost. I know someone asked on one thread I read wondering if it was worth it to build one or buy one. It would probably be cheaper to buy one if you don't have a full set up of tools to build one. I had to buy a duel regulator, ($100) hoses, and connectors for the argon ba...

Re: DIY Tig Cooler Question
Completed it yesterday! (3/13/16) Richard, thanks for the link for the inexpensive duel regulator. (from a different thread. http://forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9062) I did in the end buy one. I found the cost was close to being the same if I were to buy a Y split with valv...

Re: Argon Purge Question for SS
Thanks Josh and Richard. I think I might go the Y set up route. I'm going to be welding a tank together that will be 12"x12"x8" with some bungs. I was thinking of buying a piece of copper 12" and drilling some holes into it and clamping it to the joints and with the bungs I was g...

Re: Argon Purge Question for SS
I was planning on doing something like that with the Y split but then I thought why not split it after the welder. Why not do it this way? Is it a bad idea? Also, I would think it would be an inexpensive way to do it? As far as removing the oxygen, that can be done with a small tap of the pedal to g...

Argon Purge Question for SS
I know folks are sometimes using duel tanks, duel regulators or Y splits with values on each side of the split for there purge feed. My question is: Could you split the gas quick release from the front panel of the welder? This in my mind would make life a lot easier. Step on the pedal and gas start...

I almost bought this one but I was trying to save a few dollars. Do you think I'll have trouble getting the liquid cool with the radiator I ordered?

Re: DIY Tig Cooler Question
I wasn't thinking about the increased flow rate. But of course that is a factor. I'll most likely just plumb it back into the tank and keep the flow rate what it will be. My heat exchange that I ordered is 8"x8" cooling surface. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171872360351?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l...

DIY Tig Cooler Question
A thought I had and I'm not sure it would make a difference in it's performance. This is what I was thinking: I was going to add a split on the output of the pump (ProCon pump) and place a valve inline so I can regulate the pressure to the torch. But this is my question. I was going to route the fee...

Re: 2% Lanthanated tip problem?
Ok, I did a few bead tests today. I think the biggest improvement for me was when I balled the tungsten. The arc was a lot easier to control which made it much easier to control the puddle. And no crackling! Thank you for that suggestion! When I had a sharp point I had a lot of crackling and the arc...

Re: 2% Lanthanated tip problem?
First off thanks for the replies. I tested the post flow. I set it at 6s which seemed to help and then set it down to 5s and left it there. I don't have any 1/8 tungsten but ill be sure to get some and try that out as well as trying a not so steep of a grade on the tip. What are your thoughts about ...

Re: 2% Lanthanated tip problem?
Hmm, ok. Maybe a nub move on my part. I bought a container of nail polish remover that said 100% acetone on it. So, I figured that is what it was. Could this be the problem? I hand brushed that piece in the picture with my stainless steal wire brush then wiped it down with the acetone I have at hand...

Just timed out the post flow. 4s = 4s. I also bumped it to 10s to test and that also was as it says 10s.

Re: 2% Lanthanated tip problem?
I'm using 4043 filler rod. It's pretty obvious to me when I dip into the puddle. I haven't dipped and I still get the cactus. I'm just running it through my head. The only thing I changed out was the argon tank (because I went through one tank already) and a collet and collect body. On the tank prio...

A new Tig welder here in Los Angeles
Kriky here. I currently work as a sound mixer for television and film. I wanted to build a new sound cart for when I'm on location so I figured instead of pay someone $3k-$4k to do it I would buy a Tig welder and take my time learning then build my own cart with out the hassle of dealing with a thir...

2% Lanthanated tip problem?
I'll start off by saying I'm new to tig welding. I'm very adapt at picking things up. I'm more of a hobbyist and I'll mostly be welding aluminum. I purchase an Everlast POWERTIG 210ext and I'm using the 26torch with newly purchased collet and body. I can run some pretty nice looking beads then at ot...
