This is a great fix! I bet there's at least a 50% chance you'll be making a better ladder too when those two vertical attachment points break. Post a picture of that when it happens.

Re: Where do you get your aluminum chill blocks?

(1)Cheapest- scrap bin at a local fab shop (2)Easier- search ebay for "aluminum block" (3)Get the exact size you need- order at www.onlinemetals.com or any other online metal supplier. You can specify exactly what size you need before ordering. It will cost more, but will likely be worth i...

Nice work. Another 15 grand in tools and a lot more tig practice and I'm there........ Seriously impressive build and video, great skills. Cheers Thanks for all the positive feedback While the $15k in tools does make it a LOT more pleasant to build, It can be built with about $150 worth of tools (e...

Re: dull looking beeds on aluminum and amp related question

To me, it looks like the parts may be a bit too cold while welding. Preheating thick material before welding can help the beads shine more (and/or use a bit more amperage when welding) .The thick material may be sucking too much heat out of the weld puddle immediately after you move forward, allowin...

Aaron do you use a standard Aluminum Oxide wheel or a diamond wheel? If a Diamond wheel what grit is it?

Thanks

Re: Aluminum brackets for snowmobile rear liftinghandle

Let's put the brake-parts cleaner story in it's place. For many years, brake cleaner contained methylene chloride (a possible carcinogen and nerve agent on it's own, by the way), with chloroflourocarbons as propellant. These two items BOTH make toxic nerve agents when heated above their flash-point...

Straight argon unless I'm welding 1/2" or thicker aluminum. Then I use a 75Argon/25Helium mix.

If you dont mind me asking whos cores do you like on the A/W units? Beautiful work! I never got too serious about selling A/W intercoolers, so I just told my customers to send me whatever cores they liked. If I remember correctly, Bell intercooler cores were the best to work with (but sometimes pre...

Re: Newby Question. Should I learn all 3 at once?

No. You have to learn how to weld first. If you can't weld with an O/A torch you're not a welder.Period. From there you go stick, then TIG(while O/A work is fresh in the brain---both hands working). THEN . You don't even need to "learn" MIG. Just pull the trigger and, because you can alre...

Re: Newby Question. Should I learn all 3 at once?

Should I buy a dedicated MIG machine and stick with that for say 2 years before getting a TIG or get both and learn both? Any questions and feedback welcome. Cheers, Mick My personal experience: The very first day I got a TIG welder (which was many, many years after the MIG), I immediately wished t...

Here are my thoughts on post flow time: The way I know I'm getting enough post flow is that the tungsten remains any color (blue, gold, etc...) other than dark gray or black after the gas stops flowing. Yours is a pretty blue. So in my opinion, there is enough post flow gas shielding the tungsten un...

Another tip regarding fabricating parts like this when you have such good template if you have a decent wood router.Rough cut the piece down to 1-2 mm excess then put a trim flush bit in the router. Bolt the plates together (or tack flush) then run the router along. Will leave perfect shape and the...
