Bought a new mig lincoln 256 and having a few issues

First of all trying to understand volts setting is driving me nuckin futs. After tig welding mostly and a little stick and setting in amperage then trying to understand this constant voltage is trying, to say the least. I'm fairly proficient in mig welding as well but I've always used the cheat shee...

Re: Very strange incident with mig machine

Solid core wire, that's all I weld with. I forgot to include that I even changed wire thinking I had some sort of problem wit it. Also changed argon bottles, same issue. Very frustrating.

Very strange incident with mig machine

First off the machine I'm referring to is a Hobart 175 mig. I have run countless spools of wire through the machine trouble free flawless performance. I bought a new flatbed car trailer a year or so ago. I decided to build a frame on the tongue to mount my winch. I laid everything out and see the ma...

Re: Different measuring device discussion.

I'm no fooling with anything I need a laser level in, lol. I was just thinking about something like the smart tool. I guess it would just be an expensive torpedo level.

Different measuring device discussion.

I've always used a torpedo level but I'm sure something more accurate is available. What do you guys use to be as accurate as you can?

C clamps

Where and what brand C clamps are worth owning nowadays. Good clamps seem to be hard to find.

I have a 16" electric fan I have to install that came off a car. I'll wire it to a thermo switch to come on and off.

Re: Built a engine test stand

Looks good, any particular reason the back brace is bolted? Yes there is. I didn't feel like having to wrestle an engine into an exact location. So I made the back brace removable so it can be bolted to the bellhousing and set down into place at the same time the front mounts are bolted versus tryi...

Built a engine test stand

I built a test stand to run engines on. It's easier to setup and fix leaks on here. I have a little more to do. I'm going to put diamond plate floor in it and a couple mounts then give it a paint job. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/Team_Torch/655CF210-D07E-4100-9DE7-1A39C88A12E0_zpscofsa1ik...

Thanks for the replies fellas. The cracks go from the outer edge of the bellhousing in towards the mating surface of the transmission.

Re: Welding a cracked Chevrolet bellhousing

Do you guys suppose a 1/8" bit will be sufficient for a stop crack hole ?

Also, should I preheat the bellhousing or just bolt it to the block after its all cleaned up and weld the cracks ?

2% lanthanated it'll be !! I watched the video and I like the fact that 2% lanthanated can maintain somewhat of a point while welding AC. Thanks fellas !

Jody I have a question about your store.

I need to purchase a LaGesse square and I figured I'd get some tungsten from you as well. I like supporting these types of stores. I have a Lincoln precision tig 225. I need some tungsten for doing AL work. I looked on the weld calculator and it says to use pure tungsten. I don't see any at your sto...

Re: Welding a cracked Chevrolet bellhousing

Just curious, but are you sure that it's cracked? I've got a few aluminum Chevy bell housings that look like they are cracked, but it's actually just lines from the die casting. I thought they were cracked until I took a closer look. Oh yeah these are cracks, no doubt about it. They crack from not ...

Re: Welding a cracked Chevrolet bellhousing

Thanks for the replies fellas. I most definetly will have it bolted to a block when I weld the cracks. I won't get to this job until next week sometime but I'll be sure to post pics for people to refer to in the future. I'm going to build a engine test stand and needed a bellhousing. I've had this o...
