Also, no through floor connectors. To be honest I don't believe they comply with Formula drift regulations.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

I did certainly did consider connecting to the lower TQ boxes. The placement of the main hoop would have made it kind of tricky. This is a drift car so they will not be subject to near the punishment of a drag car. The rear plates/ shock tower re-enforcement was much needed. The car has been convert...

Not what I welded today, but just some final pictures of my last cage. Sorry for the sideways pictures... Always seem to do that when I upload from my phone

Re: #9 Torch

Thanks guys! Definitely making me feel better about my purchase. Really the most amperage I run is about 150 amps on roll cages but at that amperage I manually pulse.

#9 Torch

So I recently ordered a Weldcraft WP9 air cooled flex head torch for my machine. Just wondering how many people here have used a #9 air cooled. I really wanted a 20 water cooled but tool budgets don't allow for me to buy a water cooler setup. Most of my work is exhaust, intercooler piping and roll c...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Yes 321 is very pricey but is the best choice for any sort of turbo application where exhaust will be subject to allot of heat. If you have ever seen a turbo manifold on a 1000hp car, it gets pretty crazy haha.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

How is 316 to weld? Much different then 304? Never done any 316. In my line of work I will likely never use it, 304 and 321 are all us car guys really use.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Yes this car will be a drift car. I build most of my drift cages like FIA cages though. I don't think FD cages are sturdy enough. If it passes FIA it should pass anything ;) I would assume you have a radius bender as well as a traditional bender? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Yes I have a tu...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

My latest roll cage. So much time goes into fitting each and every piece. I will say, proper fitment ensures the best weld (still working on that part haha). I apologize for the sideways pictures. I guess they are like that if I take a picture with my phone tilted... Even though they are the right w...

One of the things I find most important is arc length and tungsten condition. In a corner you will have to run potentially more stick out then you may be comfortable with

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Grey welds can be caused by allot of things. Most of the time it is the material becoming too hot. When working with small pieces you will notice the material heat soaks quickly. Once that happens the weld will stay cherry hot and be grey. Weld color is caused by how hot the material is AFTER it is ...

I believe I was confusing 2t with 4t a bit. I know you can set a downslope and use it like a manual pulse on some machines

Yes, the runners at equal length and also equal degree of bends. I did change one runner from the way it is in the picture. Also, no pulse. Sch10 304ss welder set at 100amps but pedalling out. I get a puddle started, dab at it quickly just on leading edge of the puddle until it fills up just flush w...

Re: 2t setting coming in handy for roll cage torch switch

I used to use a torch switch on a cheaper machine. It was simply on off. I am sure the 2t function is much better. I recently got my Dynasty and I am never going back. I actually much prefer the foot pedal. Sure it sucks to lug it around everywhere and positioning takes some time but my welds have b...

Re: Anyone use ER80S-D2 to weld 4130 Chromoly with?

Anything smaller then .120 you will not have to normalize. Er80s-d2 is the best choice of filler, er70s-2 would also be acceptable. You will have absolutely no issues with either.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

To get a shiny rainbow effect there are a few things you need. Good gas coverage, it helps to use a large gas lense if you can't maintain a good torch angle. Have to have the tubing surgically clean. I use emery cloth around the cope till it is polished. I then use a die grinder with a sanding wheel...

Re: Pure vs. Ceriated/2% tungstens

I used to use transformer TIGs and had been told to always run pure tungsten until one day someone told me to try zirconated. If you are running a transformer based machine I would strongly recommend you try it. Works like a charm. I now own an inverter machine and have not really had a ton of AC pr...

Also, I would not advise welding aluminum without filler. It is very prone to cracking. What tungsten are you using? I have had similar issues welding shitty quality pipe like you would find it eBay intercooler kits.
