Re: Argon vs nitrogen purging

Hey Steve,

Thanks, hope you are having a good night!
When you say painfully slow, how many L/min would you recommend?

Cheers

Re: Argon vs nitrogen purging

Thanks Steve,

I have asked questions about purging but not with nitrogen. Can mixing be avoided with argon if one introduces it at a very low rate, in turn saving on gas?

Argon vs nitrogen purging

Hi all,

I have to purge weld a 1000 ltr tank 304 St steel.
Can I use nitrogen without any problems for purging.
I assume fill volume from top as nitrogen is lighter than oxygen?
Do any other rules apply when purging with nitrogen?

Cheers Ben

Purging

Hi all,
When purge welding a 1000 liter tank, 2mm stainless,
What would be the right L/ min flow rate to fill the tank be? And while welding a different flow rate?
I don't have a purge meter to determine when to start welding... Is there another safe way to determine when to start?

Cheers Ben

Re: can bigger volumes (enclosed tanks) be purged?

Hi everybody, thank you for your suggestions! I have a couple more questions. What gas flow rate in L/min would be the one to use for a 100 liter tank when filling and then while welding? And if I don't want to invest in a purge meter, is there another safe way to calculate for how long I have to fi...

can bigger volumes (enclosed tanks) be purged?

Hello everybody, I am building a 1000 ltr tank which has an unusual shape. there is approximately 26 meters of tig welding. material is 2mm 304 stainless steel. The problem i have is that there is no access to inside of tank, so i have to purge it if possible, but i have heard that there always has ...
