Re: Rate my 4130 ER70S-2 Tig welds please
Your definitely getting penetration even on the A set. It’s kinda hard to say for sure because of the oxidation from welding. If you had back purged the parts I’m guessing even the A ones would look pretty good. With such small parts it’s hard to back purge and it’s probably not practical unless you...

Re: Oxy leak
The thin teflon is packing that keeps the valve from leaking around the threads. If your leaking only when you turn on the lower knob of a cutting head but not when you shut it off, then you problem is the upper knob not shutting off. Edit: it’s also possible you have the wrong upper head attached t...

Re: 7018 Odd Running Characteristics & Residue
If you look at the specs for g rated 7018 rods you will see they are for marine or for a final product where the steel will be exposed to extremely low temperatures-40c. Or even colder. Being a 7018 they will have the same tensile strength as regular 7018. They are probably adding different things t...

Like Tweake says. There a special version of 7018 designed for low temp applications of the finished product.

Re: Amper Mig?
Page 16 has a chart. I think the chart answers part of your question. But I’m not sure if your referring to a specific machine. I believe most Mig machines adjust volts and wire speed. In order for your machine to adjust wire speed by changing the amps then your machine would have to know what diame...

Look for ways to standardize your common repairs. IE make jigs or precut pieces that you will be likely to need next time. If you have to do setup work consider making extra parts. Then if you mess one up you don’t have to set up again you just grab the extra one you made.

I would agree with this. The average market determines that a machine below this level justifies that its death and replacement is cheaper than buying a rebuildable machine.cj737 wrote:A $1,000 welder is disposable. Treat it as such.

I feel this discussion is akin to one I had with some colleagues about mechanical equipment recently. This experiment is a gain in knowledge. But there comes a calculation from knowledge that requires a person to decide on reliability compared to necessity. If your machine (whatever it is) is import...

Even all the antidotal evidence in this thread leans towards the actual overload trip being above the manufacturer tested trip point.

Honest answer. You need to invest in equipment that will read metal particulate content. To evaluate at a measurable level. Otherwise you’re just guessing.

Re: HTP Invertig 221 thermal over-load torture test.
Lots of thermal overloads are bi-metal. They get weaker every time they trip. Edit: side question. What was the input voltage. My experience is that when machines are pushed to the max they often t4ip sooner on lower input voltages. Also discrepancies in top end out put might be attributed to actual...

Re: Cast Aluminum Case Repair - need a tip & trick!
I’ve never welded up a cast engine case that wasn’t a MFer to get right. They are oil-soaked, crappy alloy compounds that are decades old. Worst possible conditions to weld. My approach has been to preheat the thing (whenever possible). Chemically clean. Scrub, grind or drill, then chemically clean...

Shaft drive weed whacker with a 7-1/2” circular saw blade on it. The real problem is the roots. Cover it with black plastic after for a year or two.

Re: Correct name for argon quick connector?
They use quick connects in medical gas, they only call them quick connects but name the different sizes by gas type. Oxygen is one size, nitrogen another. I spent a month searching the web before I finally found the actual spec drawings for the fittings.
