Thanks Jodie for showing me how
Thank You Jodie
Broke a tap off in a workpiece.
Looked at you video on how to TIG weld a nut to a broken stud/tap.
Followed your instructions and no worries - got the little sucker out.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/696/32362772695_4e63ccc463_h.jpg I had a long range tank fitted to my ute. Problem is the under tray water tank left inadequate room for the filler pipe to bend neatly where it needed to go. Tacked up this prototype to see if I can get the bends right. Struggled to hol...

Re: Which filler rod to TIG weld this old motorcycle frame.
For those who have read and recall "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" I find myself reflecting on the part where the author wanted to fix his mates BMW with a small piece of shim cut from a beer can and the owner of the BMW was horrified. Now I am faced with repairing my bike with...

Re: Which filler rod to TIG weld this old motorcycle frame.
Mal - Are earlier repairs in steel or bronze? I find a lot of repairs done on old motorcycle frames with OE process and bronze filler. I always tell the owners to look after their suspension and not overload their bikes. Have seen lots of frame damage simply caused by riders getting around on sacke...

Re: Which filler rod to TIG weld this old motorcycle frame.
The bike is all there - however there is also a second bike in pieces - so I will be restoring both sort of at the same time - without being too pedantic. The first task is to sort out the steering head bearings on the second bike - then alignment of the frame and then re welding some earlier crap r...

Re: Which filler rod to TIG weld this old motorcycle frame.
Thank you for all the replies. I will try some ER70 S2 and repair the centre stand first to see how it goes. My user name for interest is malmac - really simple, my full name is Malcolm McIlwraith - so for short malmac - also when we did professional photography it was malmac photography. Thanks aga...

Which filler rod to TIG weld this old motorcycle frame.
I have a couple of 1960's vintage BMW motorcycles that I am restoring. Both bikes need some frame repairs and some of the repairs require welding. I have from a reliable source that the material used to build the frames was "St R 2 G" and the welding process used in the factory was Arcatom...

Re: Who uses a Kemppi Master TIG?
Thank you all for the rapid input. Gavin, yes I got that fantastic manual when I bought the machine - and mine is in colour not black and white. Yes I admit I have been overwhelmed by the control layout so it is really good to get to talk with folks who have used one of these machines or at least ap...

Who uses a Kemppi Master TIG?
I could really do with some help understanding the settings on the Kemppi MLS 2300ACDC machine with an ASX control panel. For example here are some of the setting panels when doing AC welding. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/289/19377365896_59b46097cf_h.jpg But for example, where do you set the balanc...

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/412/19213836790_6e40061936_h.jpg Hi Len Thank you again for your responses - they have been very helpful. This is the test you told me about to check the gas - this is a bit of stainless steel. The results seem kind of ambiguous - but I don't believe the gas is contami...

Re: cause of this contamination?????
Thanks Len Yes lots of variables and having the Kemppi is another variable because the manual does not help that much and Jodey's videos are fantastic but the settings he quotes I find hard to translate to my machine. I will do the test with the bright steel and that should to rule out one variable....

Re: cause of this contamination?????
Hi Len Thank you for responding to my first real post on the forum. Please see my answers in the copy of your response below. If you're holding a tight arc (you should be) the molten Aluminum will rise to meet the tungsten and contaminate it. Is the end of your tungsten collecting crud also? I have ...

cause of this contamination?????
Hi all I am a very new to welding so you are welcome to roll your eyes and not even be able to remember when you had these sort of simple problems. As illustrated in the attachment - I am welding with a Kemppi Mastertig - around 85 to 100amp - gas is straight Argon, flow rate is between 8 to 12 l/m ...

old guy from down under
Good Ay I am 62 years old and am a hobby welder. Bought a Kemppi Mastertig to try and learn TIG on aluminium. Also bought a Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter. I am very much a project welder - so the project comes first and welding may or may not be a big part of any project. So I have a lathe and a mi...
