Re: Please talk about 'Inductance" and "run-in"
... less spatter as well as ... the better-looking toe on the bead.... Josh, you hit the nail on the head. Inductance controls the wetting action of the bead which makes for the better-looking toe, and it can make the arc spatter real aggressively or smoothly, kinda like the difference between a 60...

Re: MillerMatic 211 vs Lincoln 210 mp
I have done extensive flux core on the Lincoln mp210 it's great. Haven't had a chance to use the new 211, but both machines are inverters so I think either one will do a great job. (disclaimer - super OCD opinion mode kicking in) I will say there is one design flaw, when it comes to flux core, that ...

Re: Looking for mig welder soon
The Miller 211 is going to be a better machine than the Hobart in my opinion. The reason it is lighter is the Miller is an inverter machine while the Hobart is a transformer. Basically, inverters create an arc by means of a computer circuit board rather than your typical heavy copper wound iron core...

Re: Lincoln 210mp or 256?
Short answer: If I had to mig weld for 8 hours straight I'd pick the 256, but any other situation I'd pick the 210. We use the Lincoln 256 extensively at our school and I personally owned a 210MP for a good bit. Our 256's get abused pretty bad by the students and get run wide open for most of the da...

Re: TIG welding help
How much of your tungsten is sticking out of the cup. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk I know this post is kinda old and the problem has already been fixed, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents. Besides technique, the 3 hardware mistakes I see my students make most often is 1st, like Warrenh mentio...

Re: Lincoln Square Wave 200 tig welder review
Not trying to hi-jack your post but I'd like to add to this. I just bought this same welder, and just like you, to replace my miller diversion 180, and I am also very pleased with it. I've already welded two cast aluminum jobs with great results. One of my students also welded with it for 3 hours, p...

Re: Push and Pull debate needs to end
Sometimes a push angle is required and sometimes a pull is required. For instance, if you're mig welding aluminum you're going to push, and if you're self shielding flux core you're going to pull. If its mild steel mig welding, then you CAN do both. As an instructor, I teach my students how to do bo...

Re: When should you use electrode negative? I've been told
Welcome to the forum! There's a quick discussion of polarity and penetration here: http://www.twi-global.com/technical-knowledge/faqs/process-faqs/faq-when-manual-metal-arc-welding-which-electrode-polarity-should-i-use/ ...but I can't answer the pipe welding question (sorry). Here are some parameters I would follow: Process: GTAW "tig" Polarity: AC High Frequency Filler metal: Aluminum Bronze Gas Shielding: 100% Argon Amperage: 100 amps I would first clean the pot very very thoroughly. I use Blue Gold cleaner on cast metals and it works really well. Soap and ho...

Re: When should you use electrode negative? I've been told
DC- will cause an electrode to have an increased deposition rate, and a decrease in penetration. The weld profile will be wide and shallow. DC- is great if you need to put a lot of filler passes down quickly. DC+ will have less of a deposition rate, but an increase in penetration. The weld profile w...

Re: 4043
Rick do you do that because the weld is harder or can you tell what kind of alum the casting is. 4047 has a higher silicon amount in the filler. This silicon helps prevent leaks, and its rated for automotive applications where high temps become a factor. I use 4043 and 4047 on all my cast aluminum ...

Just got off the phone with a lincoln rep. Square waves are discontinued now Guess I waited too long to buy one. Better hurry if you want one while stores and shops still have them in inventory.

Question about cleaning action & AC balance.
I'm trying to figure out how much DCEP I can turn on the AC balance knob before the tungsten craps out. My goal is: I'm just trying to get the most cleaning action possible when I repair cast aluminum. Can anyone shed some light? I've merely approached this with the perspective "positive curren...

Re: Power mig 210 on Aluminum
In my opinion, the 252 is a fine machine. Steve S I second this. I worked at a chemical plant where we use a miller 252 for all our shop fab work. This was the machine I learned to mig weld on and its awesome. I welded short circuit as well as spray transfer with ease on a couple projects. Did A LO...

Re: Power mig 210 on Aluminum
I haven't tried to pop the duty cycle on it yet. Everything I've welded has been off 115v so far. I do a lot of repair welding so I spend more time prepping metal and only a few minutes, to an hour at most, actually welding. It can do spray mig transfer on .035 wire, but I only welded for five minut...

Re: Power mig 210 on Aluminum
I used it for a couple of jobs. Their spool gun only worked on 220v for me and trying to run it on 115v was just a headache. Personally their spool gun is very piss poor in my opinion. It looks and feels extremely cheap. I love lincoln products, but it made me miss using my old miller spoolmate 100 ...

I'd fill at 130 or so and cap at 120. Slight push angle. You can move faster then you think.... Agreed. I've only been teaching students since last October, but I noticed they all made the same mistake every time when they first started out, and that was they had too long an arc. All my students we...

Re: Stick Welding Socket welds for a Lamp
In one of Jody's older videos, he tig brazes cast iron to stainless, and he does it in AC in order to use a high negative balance, and increase the cleaning action. In this video, it appears as though he welded it in DC-? Can anyone confirm what polarity he used in this vid when he was using the sil...

I run into that kind of mess when welding Muncie 4 speed transmission cases. lol Geeze I bet you do haha. I've never welded on them before simply because the cases are always shattered to pieces, but the castings have always looked horrid and very low quality. Cricket, for what it's worth, I use th...
