Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

I'm learning to TIG weld pipes after hours at work. Had big problems doing the root pass on 6G, so instead I try to learn vertical up, walking the cup, before i even try the 6G again. Learn to walk before running eh? Learned everything from Jody and this forum! I hope to become a sertified welder so...

Re: Merciless slag

DC, with the electrode on +, earthing on - . I'm keeping the arc pretty tight, but not burying it.

Would it help if i had the electrode on - pole? I'm thaught that if the electrode is at +, it will give more penetration, but never tried the other way around

Re: What do the 'Know it All' guys say to you?

Not a guy, "but a know it all girl" At dinner, it came up that me and my brother bought a stick welding machine.. And this girl, who had a MIG welder, said this beautiful sentence: Pfft, stick welding is for amateurs. MIG is for the professionals. She was serious. We didnt even think about...

Yeah it's nearly impossible to say if it's stolen, specially abroad..

But i wouldnt buy a welder from eBay anyways, i like em brand new from a store, or used by someone i know.. Dont want to spend 1000$ on a welder that is broken.. Trust issues maybe

If you bought it on eBay, would you get any trouble? The buyer can't tell if it's stolen or not

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys! Trev: I did not get the chance to try with 7018, since the project had to be finished today. I've been storing them in the garage, outside temperatures, but not directly exposed to water or anything. All though, we have pretty moist air here in Norway, so fo...

Re: Merciless slag

No i just got 7016 rods. 2,5 and 3,2... Never had a problem with them before, but never tried on 3mm steel before.. Could the reason be to much heat into the parent metal? I also have a MIG welder, but i'm low on gas for the moment I'll find some thicker scrap metal tomorrow, if it goes well that wo...

The slag wont come off as usual, you can forget raking it, and takes a long time to get off with a chisel & Hammer... I'm welding on a 3mm plate, fillet weld, mill scale is not removed I've welded alot with these electrodes, and the sweetspot is about 78 amps. Normally, it's no problem at all re...

We have this guy at work, who claims that one of the pipe welders, welded a pipe while there was about 12 bar of water pressure going through it..
