Input power phase's.

I'm still a rookie and was looking in the lincoln electric catalog. I saw some welders said input power of 1phase and others said input of 3 phase and some even said 1&3 phase. Call me stupid but what are these phases that they speak of?

Re: new to tig, where to start with setup/consumables

Never mind about the torch. I just found out I can't do aluminum with my current setup. Now I'll have to pay for it myself and if I'm gone pay for it it's gone be a Lincoln Tig Squarewave and a Radnor M-200-R Modular Torch Kit. The torch I spoke of is a piece of junk.

Re: Tigging Aluminum with an Engine-Drive

It is a dream of mine also. I want to learn as much about welding and do as much welding as humanly possible. I'm only 15 but I already got my life laid out. Tulsa welding school in florida and then weld the rest of my life away. I really ddidn't mean to get this deep. In short I'd go with option 1.

Re: Tigging Aluminum with an Engine-Drive

I'm glad ya told me before I got the boss man to invest $500 in a torch kit that would have been worthless. All we needed a tig for was the aluminum steps on the semi's.I would have felt really stupid and probably really fired. Thanks.

Ya know of any thats cheaper than $13000? The welder didn't cost that much! What exactly would one look for in a hi freq converter?

Re: Hardfacing/surfacing

Just one more question. My dad got some lincore 60 G fcaw wire. We couldn't get that to work either so now its just a 40lb. paper weight. We weld it just like mig except for no gas as it is flux cored. The problem is that as we're welding the puddle will just ball up and fall off. It is very(and I m...

Tigging Aluminum with an Engine-Drive

Howdy. I'm new to tigging and had a question about aluminum. I read somewhere that you can't tig weld with just any old ac current and that it has to be high frequency continuous. All I've got to work with is an old weldmark engine drive that I stick weld with every now and then. I was wondering if ...

Re: new to tig, where to start with setup/consumables

Yes sir. Like I said my camera isn't exactly hd. I guess it'll be fine as long as you can see the markings on the tape measure.

Re: new to tig, where to start with setup/consumables

I'll try to get some official filler rods. By the way, I'll start wearing that fume protection stuff. Didnt think that pure metal could emit toxic fumes. Now I'm a little concerned.

Re: Love to Weld.

I'm just a 15 y.o. young'un trying to learn everything I can about welding. Its my life, its my dream. In my three or four months of welding there has not been a night I haven't had a dream of welding. My dad(diesel mechanic) started taking me to work on a regular basis. One day he sat me down and sho...

Re: new to tig, where to start with setup/consumables

Howdy. I'm new to tigging and need a little help. Ya see it goes like this. A friend of mine gave me a tig torch that he hadn't used in six years. He showed me how to keep an arc and now its just practice practice practice. The thing is, I have no idea what size/model or whatever ya call it the thin...

Re: Hardfacing/surfacing

I'm having trouble with this hardfacing stuff and was wondering if anyone might give me a little help. I'm using Lincoln Electric Wearshield 60 rods and no matter how high I turn the amps the bead just sits on top of the build up and won't spread out. Plus when I turn it as high as the welder will g...
