Re: What rods are these?
For hard surfacing rods they actually weld good! I had no problem with fusion or laying a decent bead. And I cannot say that they were more difficult to grind flat either... I have a box of real hard surfacing rods and i went to take a look at the. They only say Supradur 1000. No Din codes or other ...

What rods are these?
Received this box of rods from a sales agent for a tool mfg company. I had ordered regular 6013 rods though. So I thought they were 7018. Doesn't say on the box. Only has ISO number and I'm not familiar with that. I welded a bit on a loader bucket today and the weld would crack right thru the middle...

As for the amps on a 1/8" 7018 rod, I think my welding wonder from 1965 doesn't even start a weld at 90 amps... At least not without sticking. I like it more at 110-125 amps. I do sway from side to side but no whipping.

For new 120/240 volt stick/tig machines, I like my ESAB 161. It's under $600 and works excellent :) I have bigger, more expensive machines too, but the ESAB is a great portable. I would not hesitate to buy tweco or thermal arc machines as well. I 2nd the Esab machines. I have had 2. A caddy 160 and...

Here's a project I did a few days ago. My employee managed to break the shaft and bend the pillars on our disc. So I ordered new shaft, and new pillars. Pillars not in stock at the factory nor had they any date as to when they were going to make new ones... Nice... So I ordered the shaft, and put th...

Had a small improvement to do on my new Caterpillar 924K. Had it in front of my shop today as the dealer came to do its 500 hour maintenance. Machine has automatic lubrification so all pivot points have hoses attached to them. The ones on the lower boom, where the quick attach hooks up were sticking...

No weld pics but here is one of my biggest projects I ever welded. Needed a place to store the feeds for our cows (I am a dairy farmer). Re: Welding cracked aluminum engine oil pan
As others have said - it can be welded but I think the most cost effective solution is HTS-2000 & a skid plate - I've used it on occasion on oil coolers & aluminum radiators with good results - less issues with contamination - less prone to re-cracking - less chance of collateral damage fro...

Re: Welding cracked aluminum engine oil pan
I actually like the thought of building my own! How do I go about making on? I guess I would start of making a flange out of 8 or 10 mm steel, drill the holes, tighten it to the block and tack a box to it and weld it watertight on the bench? I could probably make it a little less deep and a bit wide...

Welding cracked aluminum engine oil pan
Ok, so I cracked the oil pan of my car ('00 Toyota Corolla 1.9D ). Again.... :o :( Must be the 3rd time now. Hit a stone here on one of my farm roads. Stupid thing is so thin, anything bigger then a grain of sand hitting it cracks it. (Ok this stone was more like baseball size) So I laid a ni...
