Job advice
I completed school back in 2016 with my basic and advanced SMAW and GMAW certicate of completion. I had trouble finding a welding job due to lack of experience, so I took a job at a sawmill and have worked my way up to sawyer. I have done a little "bush" welding to help out maintenance ove...

Re: Flux wire brand
I will definitely look it other wore brands recommend here. Also I was wondering if I need an electrician to come out and run me an outlet for it or if running an extention cord from my porch Tommy she'd would be ok for a few simple projects at the house until I get power run to my shed.

Flux wire brand
I'm getting the Chicago Electric flux welder in a few weeks when it goes on sale at harbor freight. I know Chicago Electric may not be the best brand of welders on the market but it is what is the budget and wI'll get some home projects done. I am new to flux but I have experience with mig. My big q...

Re: Chicago Electric Welders
I think for the small projects I am planning right now I will go with the Hobart handler 140 mig welder then get something more serious. Another question I have is about flux core. I know how to mig but I have never done flux core, are they basically the same thing with the only major difference bei...

Chicago Electric Welders
I recently finished at a technical college for welding and I am looking to pick up a relatively cheap machine for some projects around the house. In school I used Miller but currently don't have the money for that(all though I would love to) so when I saw Chicago Electric at my local harbor freight ...

Re: Recommendations for good machine
Ok, I have seen all kinds of reasonably priced machines, guess what I'm really wondering is what are some of the companies that are really good and some that maybe not so good. I'm still green when it comes to the welding world but I imagine like every other product on the market there are some comp...

Recommendations for good machine
I'm currently in school and looking for a machine so I can do somethings at home. I have a Lincoln 225 Tombstone buzzbox but want a dc machine and possibly a SMAW/GMAW combination machine. Re: Light for miller digital elite
I have a miller digital elite but have been using a Jackson someone gave me since the miller went down. I tried striking at the beginning of the root but would pass the keyhole and try to come back to it and wasn't able to tie in worth a shit. So I need the light to see where I stopped and now that ...

Re: Light for miller digital elite
I can see the puddle fine, the issue I was having is that when I put my plate back so I could restart I couldn't see where to strike it to start due to lack of light so I put a magnetic light on the vent in my booth and point it up and I've been good since I started to do that. My shield melted when...

Re: Light for miller digital elite
I couldn't get the headlamp on the hood so I used magnets to stick it to the vent and it worked great and I was able to see where to strike and get my restart tied in good but messed my hood up later in the day when a glob fell on it now I have to get a replacement part.

Re: Light for miller digital elite
The biggest issue is being able to see due to lack of light, I knoe how to restart just having trouble seeing. I bought a head lamp with an elastic band earlier at lowes to see if I a can figure out a way to make it work and my instructors are pretty open to us bringing in our own equipment so if I ...

Re: Lincoln Tombstone Buzzbox Cart Ideas
This is what I have for a base but without thinking twice I made it 22 inches wide and forgot my machine was only 17, any ideas how to make it work? Thinking of spacing a 1 inch piece of flat bar across and then putting a piece of angle iorn behind it but not sure how it will work.

Re: Trouble deciding on SMAW/MIG/TIG at school
My 2 pass and cover pass were run with 7018, is it common or better to use 7018 to run a root pass? I had some issues all semester with rod angle and travel speed but for the most part that is how my roots looked on a regular with a fee that were a little worse.

Re: Trouble deciding on SMAW/MIG/TIG at school
Root pass is required for everything we do in school, I do a lot of whip and pause in vertical with my 6010s. I have would without any motion that progresses forward a little it droops and sags to much. I thought I posted the cover pass, here it is:

Lincoln Tombstone Buzzbox Cart Ideas
I have a Lincoln Tombstone Buzzbox that I am trying to build a cart for. I have an idea on what I would like to build but not sure if it will work. I am a student and I've only gone as far as vertical SMAW so I don't have that much experience and was wondering if anyone could help me figure if what ...

Re: Trouble deciding on SMAW/MIG/TIG at school
I am using a 6010 for the root pass on both the t-joint and the open root. I tend to have the best results using a whip and pause motion, I will take some pics of my work today and share with you guys.

Trouble deciding on SMAW/MIG/TIG at school
I am currently enrolled in school for welding and having A LOT of difficultly with SMAW Vertical. I have about a week left in the semester and struggled with my t-joint to the point that my instructor moved me on to my v groove to see if I could get it and if it would help with my t-joint. That was ...
