Re: how do I tell what number size my tig torch is?

OK, so 13N and #9/#20 and CK series 2 are all expected to interchange?

(Three different names for the same sizes of threads, etc.?)

If so, thank you very much for that explanation.

how do I tell what number size my tig torch is?

So Jody did a video talking about #9 and #20 and so forth size tig torches.

My dynasty 280dx came with a weldcraft W-280 (liquid cooled) - how do I figure out what "number" size class it is?
(For such purposes as ordering gas lenses, etc)

Re: What the hell were you thinking?

Actually that's a development piece from a secret new technology designed to allow welding of dirty oily components.
It's closely related to the project to weld wood to cast iron.

Worth examining a case where an electrocution actually happened. Please note the following key phrases as examples of things NOT to DO "240-volt plug-in cord-connected Hobart welder was in disrepair" "To allow the welding leads to reach the location of the feed bunker wagon, the victi...

Re: Home made dry cut miter saw (lots of pics)

I have a several years old evolution hand circular metal cutting saw (not a cutoff saw, more like skilsaw for metal) It's OK, but would bog down on things like 1" aluminum plate. I now have a steelmax version of the same idea - it can cut 1" aluminum plate reasonably well. So I prefer the ...

Value of nitriding on a welding table?

Looking at welding tables (and parts thereof) one (extra cost) option is "nitriding" - as in extra money for a table with nitrided table slats.

What does this do? How valuable is it? How does it compare with a table top made of cast iron?

Re: Welding Art?? or Something

Jody - in your video you talk about an "air scriber" - not a term I've seen before. Is this a rotary or reciprocating or ??? device?

And if you wanted bold colors on aluminum plate, what welding filler would you use?

most readable cam type welding gauge or scale

I got a cam type welding gauge (welding scale?) off of amazon, which is engraved stainless. pretty, looks like it will work well, except it's very hard to actually read. Is there a particular brand or supplier of such gauges that is easier to read? (Printed black, or white on black background, or so...

Re: Am I harming my eyes?

xwrench - are you wearing closeup lenses? (cheaters/readers)? And if so, are they set for the right distance? (meaning, if say 2.0 diopters would be right for welding distance, are you earing 2.0 and not 1.0 or 3.0?) a reason this might matter is that how much light you need to see well rises with f...

Re: tig machine power tradeoff

Sanity check (correct rule of thumb to start?): 1. Co2 -> NOT for Tig. 2. 100% Argon - what you use for Tig unless there's a reason to do otherwise 3. 25%He or 50%He or 100%He (rest Argon) -> make for hotter welds and thus increase penetration, or solve other problems. And so soutthpaw's comment ref...

Re: tig machine power tradeoff

Thanks guys. It's a lot more money for 350, and for all I know when I need "bigger" I'll need waaaay bigger, so I've decided to go for a 280DX for now - might add the expansion later.

Thanks again, and I'm still open to learning anybody else's thoughts on this.

Re: X-ray welds = automatically great welder??

Newbie observation (from a totally different field...)

Tests don't tell you something is good. Passing the test fails to prove that something is bad. The difference is subtle but important.

tig machine power tradeoff

This has surely been discussed at length, but I cannot find the right search terms. So anybody who wants to answer with links to informative threads on the question - that will be appreciated. (Or the right search terms...) The decision - I'm mostly miller centric (great luck with them so far), and ...
