Re: Rotating Welding Positioner

As much as I appreciate all the advice, I'm not looking to build one. I have no time. I need something with a motor that has over a 2" thru hole. If any one here has any experience please chime in.

Rotating Welding Positioner

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm looking for a unit that will accept at minimum a 2" through hole. So far I have found the two listed below. I have no experience with these at all. My budget is $4K. I'd like to use it with mig and tig. Any advice would be great. https://www.trick-tools.com/Baileigh-WP...

Miller 252 Problems

So for the last two years I have been using my 252 to weld dual shield fcaw with. I have used the same 75/25 mixture and the same Lincoln wire along with the same various setting depending on the weld required. Suddenly and randomly all of y settings went in the crapper and the machine started makin...

Re: Aluminum question, MIG.

I mig aluminum with spray setting in the production setting almost every day building industrial fans it is definitaly a whole other animal than steel but once you get a hang of it it is fairly consistent figuring out where to set the machine the three things to look at are stick out which unlike s...

This is a single pass I just made changing the machine settings to the welders recommend specs for 1/2 material but this was hot rolled.

Re: Help with penetration

I dont have a ton of experience with flux so i was just playing around. I was more concerned with keeping the vertical plate vertical and then decided to see what the penetration looked like. what settings would you have used for that material using .045 flux?

Help with penetration

These are pictures of a t joint i welded today. I used a miller 252 with 75/25 and lincoln 0.045 flux cored wire. Both plate were cold rolled 1/2". The machine settings were 300 ipm and 30 volts. After welding all 3 passes on each sides i let it cool then sectioned twice and polished them. I'm ...

That's your problem right there, you should be using 75/25.
FYI.

The chart above shows minimums for preheat and interpass. Back to my original question, What temp should I let the material cool to before i make my second pass??

Re: Material temperature

Is the're different temps for different processes? Guess I should have stated I'm using fcaw-g. Keep it under 350 deg, between passes, and your good. A blanket rule of 350 deg is not accurate nor recommended. There are so many variables to consider, material type and types welded together, filler m...

Re: Material temperature

Im not following any code and have not been given any weld specs by the engineer, there for no preheat. What should it have been?

If i'm reading AWS D1.1 correctly with the type of steel i'm using the minimum preheat for anything .750 to 1.50 only requires a 50 degree preheat.

Re: Material temperature

OK so this all started because i ran a pass today on some A570 1" thick with a miller 252 settings 24.3/380 fcaw-g 75/25 and took the temp in various locations from on the weld to 1" intervals up to 3" away from the weld and seemed like the highest temp I got was 225F. I took these te...

Re: Material temperature

So I've been researching this a little and found a few posts that claim they have seen up to 150 degree f inconsistentakes When using an infrared gun. Has any one else seen this and what's is the preferred method for checking temps?
