Re: welding bracket for hydraulic arm
Will you also be responsible for repairing the coating after the relocation of the bracket? Hard to tell from the pic, is the beam that bracket is welded to, a built up piece made out of plate, or is it a rolled section? If it's a rolled section, you may be dealing with a ASTM A992 beam and ASTM A57...

Re: Tig pumping the pedal
here's the results of the one posted etching another as we speak I did today same technique Curious about where the un-welded edge was on the top plate in that lap joint. Looks to me to be the first pic. The etching appears to show a large triangular area at the root that was not fused. But lots of...

Re: Tig rod question
Judging by the "ni" and "cr"...I would venture a guess that it has higher percentage of nickel and chromium in it... well just from a google search I found this: Braehill was right, it's Inconel 82, an AWS A5.14 material http://www.specialmetalswelding.com/products/datash/fm82.pdf

Re: At home welding certification
Question for the OP: What welding code does the NHRA and other racing entities use to qualify welding personnel and welding procedures to? I would try to obtain that info and a copy of the rules and regulations governing your class of racing before attempting to build or test anything. This may get ...

Re: Hardfacing/surfacing
Maybe on the new one you do a couple beads of preventative hard facing. Just a thought. Thanks Nick, might suggest that to the boss. On the new cutting heads, I've been touching up the hard surfacing as soon as we see that get worn so we don't have to build it way back up beforehand to restore them...

Re: Painting Help
An industrial type primer and top coating may be expensive, but any of the zinc rich primer and top coat systems need a blasted surface profile to be effective. Take a minute and look up a paint store in your area that handles these coatings(Sherman Williams for example). They have representatives t...

Re: just venting.... newbie welders.
I was at a fab shop for just a few months shy of 30 years...started as a errand runner and blue print machine operator and worked up through the engineering department and ended up being the QC manager for the largest part of my employment there. Anyway to the discussion at hand, I was usually taske...

Hardfacing/surfacing
Has anyone here had any luck building back the flights on drill rig augers? The company I work for has a small geotechnical drill rig to retrieve soil samples at different depths and the augers are wore out and need to be built back up. I'd post a picture but being a newbie to the forum, I'm unsure ...
