Re: I still remember how to weld!

Living less than 20 miles from the Dragon, I have local knowledge, ride, and weld. Give me a shout if you like.
The tail is busy weekends. Spent 2 nights at Dragon's Rest in Robbinsville n.c. last week. $75 per night, nice.

Re: Chop saw or band saw

I have an Evolution Rage4 7.25 " dry metal saw. $150.00 @ Sears, HD, Amazon, and elsewhere. Not an industrial saw but seems to do all I need for my hobby shop. They have bigger sizes and compound miter slide saws. Makes a clean cool cut. Mine runs 3000 rpm.

Re: Looking for help on deciding what welder to buy

I am new to welding, took a 30 hour class on stick at CC. I found a small used mig for tacking together stuff and practice. I want to make some implements for my mini backhoe. Got a deal on some recycle 1/2 X 4 steel plate that is just right for a stump ripper, but the little 125 a mig won't do. Loo...

Where is the puddle?

I'm new to welding. Took a short course at the CC, mostly stick. Got an old Farm Hand 125 running FC on 1/8" mild steel. I have trouble keeping up with the puddle and seeing my intended weld line. I'm wearing my glasses plus a 2.25 lens in the helmet. I try to work in good day light and or add ...

Re: Jody's welding cart project.

My welding and cart project are not up to paint and photos quite yet.
Reading this thread reminds me of a quote from H. G. Wells, something like:
Human history is more and more a race between education and catastrophe.
Now back to grinding splatter and buildup around voids.

Re: Welded and bolted

Some questions:. Loads : dynamic ,static or a mix, frequency, chemical, temperature, repetitive You might weaken the piece by drilling for fastener but depending on attachment do you weaken the application. Bolting could generate some stress concentration not left by welding. Welding might affect ba...

electrically always hot mig wire

I am a Newby and have an older CH Farm Hand 125 mig. The wire and tip is always hot. Is there a way to modify this by adding a relay or contactor? I only have $100 in the welder. This is a troublesome condition and seems to me a safety issue.

Old beginner from east TN

I have dabbled in home building, maintenance, and a variety of types of projects over the years. It was always frustrating when I needed to weld something and could not. After retiring from an engineering career I took the basic (32 hours) stick class at the local community college. Teacher gave us ...
