Stick Welding outdoors with rust everywhere.
I was on my friends cattle ranch recently. We had to repair a gate that a bull ran through. My friend used an old portable Lincoln stick welder, on a trailer. The only prep work that was done was to grind off some rust for the ground clamp. Otherwise, he and I just welded on top of all the rust. Thi...

Re: hypertherm template question
I'm new at using my 30xp also, but I thought they used the same drag deflector. Run a test. Using a long straight edge as your guide, drag one tip a few inches. Then, change tips and drag that a few inches along the same straight edge. The test will tell you if the tips are the same distance. The la...

I was listening to the pod cast with Jason Moser. I thought I would look him up on the internet and on youtube. I couldn't get a hit on anything I tried. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Re: Repurposed frame for plasma cutting stand
I wanted my slats to extend above the frame, about 1/8th so if I had a very long piece of metal it would lay flat even when extended over the frame. I do think the slats will be sacrificed when cutting and that is why I wanted to be able to move them around.

Re: Repurposed frame for plasma cutting stand
I believe that Jody's design allowed for the replacement of slats. Also, they can be turned over and used some more if damaged. Some plasma tables I've seen have used thinner slates but I thought these would hold up to some abuse and wouldn't be that expensive. Metal is so expensive these days. I pl...

Repurposed frame for plasma cutting stand
I had a frame from a Little Giant powerhammer that I repurposed to make my plasma cutting table/stand. For those that don't know what a Little Giant power hammer is, it is a mechanical blacksmith hammer with a 50 lb ram that mashes metal when heated. They come in different sizes. The frame had a wir...

Re: Jody's Plasma Cutting Table diagram?
I must be going mad. I cannot find the diagram/specifications of Jody's downdraft plasma cutting table from any of the suggestions offered above. I've seen the video but Jody indicated he would include late a diagram of the table. Does it exist? Has anyone seen it. It's the diagram with the measurem...

Re: Jody's Plasma Cutting Table diagram?
I am really sorry, but I still can't find Jody's diagram/spec's on his plasma cutting table. I've tried the home page, half way down, but found no search bar, I'm not computer advanced, and I couldn't find it in welding projects. I tried the search bar at the top, but I still can't find a diagram. D...

Plasma Cutting table
I want to make a plasma cutting table. Not an elaborate one. The question for me is the size slats. I was thinking about 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch thickness. I'm repurposing a rectangle I found in the scrap pile for the table and will cut in grooves for the slats. Not having used my new Hypertherm 30XP p...

tig welding a muffler
My Honda mechanic told me I have a crack on my exhaust muffler that houses the catalytic converter. A 2004 Honda civic. He said it goes mostly all the way around and is stainless steel. Not having welded a muffler before, I 'm sure someone out there has done something similar. How thick would the st...

Re: Tube Borium rod
The depth of the tines depends on the tractor operator. I think it would range from 2 to 4 inches. I found that the ends of the comb wore most. Two or three tines on each end would wear more than any others. I never thought of hardfacing the sides of the tines. I'm sure that would help on the ends o...

Here is a photo of the comb. I tried different patterns to see if one pattern held up better but I found it didn't matter.

I want to hardface weld an arena rake dragged behind a tractor. I've used Stood 35 before but the hardfacing didn't last for very long. The arenas are a mix of sand and DG, no rocks or material to impact. I have only a Lincoln AC arc welder and want to use Tube Borium to hardface the rake. It looks ...

Hypertherm Powermax 30 Air?
Any updates on the Powermax 30AIR? Someone must have been using one lately. Having it's own air supply makes it very portable. But, I'm always suspect of new anti-gravity technology that appears to run more equipment without any appreciable loss in power. I'm not from the "show me" state, ...

Re: Hypertherm Powermax 30 AIR
What's up guys? It's been over two weeks and I was hoping someone, of the two or three people in the world who have one of these, would report on it's performance. The idea of an onboard air supply is really nice, but only if it performs well. A comparison to the 30XP would be nice. Does the failure...

Can you tig weld a vice screw?
A friend gave me the handle and screw assembly to a large vice. The bar is about 1 inch solid with threads in good shape but it was split in half somehow. He asked me if I could weld what appears to me to be a cast material. What to use? DC tig? Settings? Do I need rod for cast material? Would this ...
