Re: Depressions at edge of the bead?

I think I have figured it out. On these saddle tees the line seems to happen along the side as I get slightly out of position and the torch tilts to much. I believe I am dwelling in that area a bit to long and applying to much heat. I tried rotating my quarters 45 degrees welding over the top on eit...

Depressions at edge of the bead?

After many hours of TIG practice I have gotten pretty confident laying a smooth even bead on my .065 wall stainless tube but have found a problem when I blend the weld into the tube. This is all saddle tee joints. Most at 90 degrees and a few at 60 degrees. After tacking I weld opposite quarters. Ab...

I have welded myself into a hole.

After much practice with my TIG welder I finally got my bead neat enough to tackle the stainless rail work on my boat. On the final weld on up of the bow pulpit I have hit a problem. The top rail is continuous with 4 stanchions. Three lower rail pieces are saddle teed into the stanchions. On the ver...

Re: Tig .065 tube to a flange

After many hours becoming expert at grinding electrodes I hit on a good way to practice without wasting a lot of stainless tube. Started inserting a piece of 7/8" tube into some 1" and TIGing the joint. Polish, inspect, cut out the weld and do it again. Once I made a few welds with pretty ...

Re: Tig .065 tube to a flange

Thanks. More practice. I was afraid you were going to say that. This cheapo Tig is DC only so I just have to use up a lot more tube 2" at a time. ;)

Tig .065 tube to a flange

Long time MIG but new to TIG. Practicing a lot on scrap 316 and laying a pretty decent bead on flat stock and tube scraps with the ultimate the goal fo fabricating bow and stern rails for my sailboat project. I am almost there with the tee welds but the flanges are giving me fits. Practicing by inse...
