Syncrowave for sale

I an upgrading to a newer unit and have two Miller Syncrowave Welders I'm looking to sell. One is a Miller Syncrowave 180SD for $1000. It comes with a WP9 air cooled torch, foot pedal, regulator, and stick lead, also includes cart. This welder is in good working condition and still in use. The other...

Re: Welding aluminum

I think I would avoid using steel wool to clean your filler rod. Cross contamination and embedded steel particles directly on the filler wire could cause some issues. Clean clean clean that aluminum off if you expect to weld anything. Clean off your filler rods too. I wipe mine with steel wool. I w...

Re: Welding aluminum

I have a syncrowave 250DX and you need 180 -205 amps to be welding 1/4" plate. Clean clean clean that aluminum off if you expect to weld anything. Clean off your filler rods too. I wipe mine with steel wool. First action that happens is the cleaning action and it will not start to wet-in until ...

Re: Lincoln wire feed work with miller?

I run an older LN7 off my Trailblazer and works great. When I first got the LN7 I looked everywhere for information about hooking the two up and found absolutely nothing except the wiring diagrams for both units. I bought a 14 pin plug on ebay and took my best guess at it. Didn't work but I switched...

Bucket Welding

I seem to be getting more and more buckets in for repairs. Here's a 5 foot ditching bucket I put a new bottom in along with the wear bars. I don't know if anyone else has experienced the same problem as I have with dirt between the layers that makes it impossible to weld, and didn't know if there wa...

Re: Switching plasma torches

Sometimes mine will do that a little if I've got a poor ground. On bigger stuff like dirty 1/2". But the machine (Miller Spectrum 875) shuts down after a few seconds of non contact. I did get it clogged yesterday and replaced some parts, but also cleaned out the orifices with a O/A tip cleaner....

Re: Plug welding / hole diameter ?

If I go with a bigger hole, at least I'd have room to wash the sides down into the bottom. I got so caught up trying to make it work the way I had it laid out, that I couldn't stop. Just wanted it done. could barley feed rod down the hole to hit the wet spot without the torch spitting back at me. An...

Re: Plug welding / hole diameter ?

I know this thread is a little old but was curious what guys did for plug welds in aluminum. I has six plugs to do today and caught hell doing them. I was going through a layer of 16 gauge over a layer of 1/8" that I was trying to plug into another 1/8" stock on the bottom. I drilled 1/4&q...

Re: Sportster Bobber Project

I repair a lot of repairs. Ford F150 frame below. I don't know if it broke close to the HAZ or the guy just missed the crack completely. Had to cut and replace 30" on both frame rails. Had another frame repair a month before (toy hauler) that the first repairer blew out more metal than the bead...

Re: looking to buy ac/dc stick tig combo welder..suggestions

Sometimes you can pick up Miller Syncrowaves for fairly short money, maybe in the $1000 range for something big enough to do most practical stuff. I have a 180sd that I picked up for $900 with an 80 cf argon tank, cart, torch, regulator, stick lead and foot control. It was a low hour machine that lo...

Re: Sportster Bobber Project

Thanks for the kind words and I can really relate to the stuff that no one wants to do. I get a lot of crap I don't think can be welded and somehow it's been staying together. Old cast iron tractor parts. Or dirty beat up oil soaked cast aluminum. Rusted out truck frames. Nothing beats the smell of ...

I do a lot of commercial kitchen equipment for a customer who buys it at auction. Stainless hoods, sinks tables needing repairs and modifications. Pizza oven right now. Then farm equipment, and who knows what's coming in that door. I did a 24' X 6" aluminum liquid manure pipe that was broke in ...

Re: Sportster Bobber Project

This one I fabbed everything from scratch including the frame. The fenders were blanks but still was a ton of fab on the rear one with the struts, frenched in plate and tail light wiring tabs. Handle bars and kickstand too. Cost me as much to chrome them than as it would have to buy them, if there w...

Re: Sportster Bobber Project

No, I didn't fab the tank although it's not beyond my ability. Just didn't feel like putting that much more time into it. I bought this one off ebay $80. Cut the cheap mounting tabs off it and fabbed up a hidden mounting system that I use on most of my tanks. Lucky enough to make it land on the exis...

Sportster Bobber Project

This was the old lady's 2002 883 sportster before I started chopping it up. I tried selling it last year and couldn't get the $3000 I was looking for. So over the winter, when I didn't have a custom job, I was playing with this trying to make something a little cooler that might possibly sell. Chopp...

Re: Advice on buying a Mig

I've got a Millermatic 211 myself and it's a great machine. I've got several other welders at arms length and always go for the 211 if I can. Just easier to set up and go. Of course, everything I've got is on wheels or carts. When I first got that 211 I was running it on the 115 for quite a while be...

Re: Lincoln LN-7 control cable Pin ID

I'll answer my own question now that I've got it figured out, just in case anyone else is looking for the information. There was a wiring diagram of the LN-7 in the owners manual, and tracing the control wires I came across symbols that identified the circuits a little better. WIRE PIN JOB to MILLER...

Re: Backpurge...mild steel? Any benefits?

When I'm building gas and oil tanks for motorcycles, I almost always back purge them. I just use my torch and pump it in there pre and post. Heat builds up and on the post flow you can really feel just how hot it gets inside a tank. I imagine it would help anything with in enclosed space where heat ...

Lincoln LN-7 control cable Pin ID

I'm in the process of trying to tig and mig off my trailblazer 275 so I'm not hauling three different machines with me when I'm out on the road. I got the tig all figured out and moving on. I scored a Lincoln LN-7 Code 9168 from a friend who knows absolutely nothing about it so I'm trying to figure ...

It is also pretty important to me, that I have something to rest my fore arm on. Keeps your hands steady. I use the tig finger, sometimes a pair of old gloves, sometimes a wooden 2x4, back of my shop chair. Whatever it take to steady my hands enough to keep the point of that tungsten exactly where I...

Re: SS practice, to get right color

I've been welding a good bit of kitchen stainless the past few months and had my share of issues trying to perfect my welds so they disappear into the kitchen equipment, sinks, hoods, tables....... Most of the stuff is 18 gauge and I've tried everything. What's working best for me right now in an .0...
