okay, I'll clean things up and try again.
Anybody know of any tables giving gas flow versus cup size? I was using a #7 cup and gas flow was set for about 10lph. The everlast flow meters are in liters.
thanks.

what am I doing wronb?
I am practicing my TIG welding a little each day. I'm beginning to get used to the torch and machine. I am getting holes in my practice welds and I'm sure one of you guys can tell me what I'm doing or not doing. I'm just welding on mild steel at around 80 amps with a 3/32" 1.5% lanthanated tung...

Re: hints on welding hood setting?
thanks, jakeru and Gary. all those things make sense. I especially appreciate the info about plasma cutting as I was having that problem this morning with shade # 9 and later on was thinking of trying my shade 5 oxy cutting mask. I'll have to save up some bones for a new helmet. I just bought the No...

hints on welding hood setting?
I'm learning to TIG weld on my own with the help of Jody's videos and my everlast 205 welder. I am having a little trouble seeing the weld area well enough when the arc is lit. My setting on my autodarkening Northern Tool helmet is around 11 or maybe a little less. I've had problems in the past seei...

Re: everlast powerpro205
Hey Wayne, Sure am glad to hear from someone else who has a 205 especially someone who has had one for a while and likes it. I think I will like mine once I learn its personality. Your comments on the pulse are helpful. I was out playing with the pulse settings today. I also got around to trying the...

Re: everlast powerpro205
On my everlast 205 I had a question about how to effectively turn off the pulsing. I didn't get what I thought was a very nice reply from everlast support. I am hoping that Jody has better luck with his arc starting problem.

everlast powerpro205
Got my everlast 205 on Tuesday and so far things seem to work okay. Jody reported a problem starting the arc on his 256 while working on aluminum, so I ran out and tried my 205 without a problem. My biggest hurdle right now is I'm a complete noob to TIG welding so I've got a lot of practice ahead of...

Re: question about fumes
Hey Gary, Welder won't be here till Tuesday. Got the shop cleaned up and a place made for it this weekend. I was just curious about why fumes from MIG vs TIG might be diifferent since this fellow said the fumes from welding Al with MIG were toxic. I need to go back and query him about why he thought...

question about fumes
The article about phosgene gas prompts me to write about a question I've had for a few days. When I was researching whether I should get a spool gun for my MIG machine or go the TIG route for aluminum, one local guy I know said that toxic fumes were created when using MIG to weld aluminum. I eventua...

Re: what welder to buy?
Thanks very much guys. This is all really helpful. Gary, I think I understand the settings things now. I will download the manual for the 256 before I decide finally but I think I'm going to try to get the 256 if I can afford it. Kevn, thanks very much for your input. Hearing that you've got friends...

Re: what welder to buy?
I'm a bit confused about needing to control the amperage on the 205 with the foot pedal. Is that because of the lack of start/end amp setting on the 205? Both have up slope and down slope. On the everlast comparison chart it says that both the 205 and 256 have the 4t/2t switch. I probably should dow...

Re: what welder to buy?
Thanks much for all the feedback, Gary. I am located in Knoxville, TN., so if anybody is as close as a 2 hr drive that you know of, let me know. I have spent (mis-spent?) the last 35 years as an electronics design engineer so I know only too well that very little electronics is actually produced in ...

Re: what welder to buy?
Gary, Thanks for the input on the Everlast. I need some good counsel, as I am beginning to feel less confident the more I look at different units. Let me try to explain where I am in the process. I was going to get the Miller diversion until I started watching some of Jody's videos and read the chin...

what welder to buy?
Hi folks, I have stick welded with a buzz box for many years, and then about 7 or 8 years ago got a Millermatic 251 MIG and it is great for steel. But now I want to do aluminum, and thin stuff at that. But I don't have a ton of money to spend. What else is new, right? I've been reading many, many re...
