Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Today and other days, I've been welding up a new TV table. The table frame is sand blasted ASTM A500 1.5 Sq x .062 wall Square Tube. Here is an account of my welding experience so far on this first somewhat complex (for me) GTAW project. Tacking Tacks were a challenge. The tube was cut with my HF 14...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Been a while since I posted one of my shaky welds, so here goes... Much of this was done in the mirror, since it was tight quarters. I tested this to 225 PSI, and got the outer jacket done and helium leak tested. It was a good day. Steve S Steve, where was the torch in all this? Where was the mirro...

Re: What to charge?
I suggest you send your photos out to local/regional shops and ask for quotes. See what others are charging for similar work. You'll probably get back a few of those quotes asking who did the beads in the photos. Nice work indeed.

Re: What the hell am I doing wrong???
You may want to check out Hobart School of Welding book store on line. They have the knowledge (no doubt about it) for sale to one and all. When I got my MIG machine I bought their GMAW (MIG) book and a calculator card for each Mig, Tig and, Stick. Bought a Tig machine two weeks ago. One week ago I ...

Re: Getting shocked
Heat build up in the machine and sweat in your clothing? Dampened clothing may have provided a good ground point. Here in socal, my garage is hitting 100 F pretty reliably these days. It's hot.

Re: Melting Tungsten
quote: Concave is not necessarily a great thing. Good put, many thanks. It is interesting that in aircraft, bead blasting is used to ensure metallic part surfaces are in compression from the start. Ship building industry builds big flexy stuff too so the details are a big deal. The input on this boa...

Re: Melting Tungsten
I read the Everlast dv200 manual again and yep, electrode - torch - negative for DC TIG. I connected the electrode - torch - positive just like my HTPMig200. Won't do that again. It is great to see the dialogue from the Welding Tips and Tricks user community. Interesting bit on electron flow. If you...

Melting Tungsten
This Forum saved my bacon when starting out on MiG and now it seems, on TiG too. Got the basics of Mig pretty much down - happily. Today I am learning TIG, I learned here at weldingtipsandtricks.com that If your tungsten melts, you need to change polarity!. Thought I followed owner's manual but, may...

Re: TIG Welding Basics Part 1 Big Overview of TIG
Jody, thank you for the insight. Today was day one with Tig for me. My questions- 1. The tungsten rods are about 6 inches long. Can I just cut 'em in half and sharpen both ends? This would save me some time and keep me arcing more. Its a seat time thing- I'm going to need a lot. 2. This Everlast DV ...
