Do your grinding outside or have a fan blowing or vacuum the dust out.

Lincoln PTA 17 Tig boady replacment
I have been searching to find the Lincoln PTA 17 Tig Body replacement head with no luck. Or does anyone know what size threads the back cap are? I stripped my threads inside the back of my torch. If I knew the thread size I could go buy a thread tapper and re thread it. I would rather buy 2 or 3 rep...

Re: TIG Aluminum Question
Thanks for taking the time to post this. I had read that "helium won't turn your welder into a monster", but it sure seems like it. Wish I had more aluminum projects to try this out on. I had my doubts. Im happy I tried it. Huge diffrence, If I use a little to much Helium I cant burn my f...

Re: TIG Aluminum Question
I weld 1/8" Aluminum Tube all the time. When i do I weld all day none stop to get as much done as possible. I have a Lincoln Precision Tig 225 150 Amps was enough to melt the tube with Pure Argon. Problem I had was hitting duty cycle all the time because doing production welding I was never giv...

Only tungsten i have found that hasnt shreded tips has been the white band. I believe its zirconiated but you said you have tried that. Lanthonated and thoriated both split ends real bad on me. The white does a nice clean balled tip.

Re: learning to tig aluminium
100 Amps will not weld anything much thicker than 1/16" Aluminum. I weld 1/16" with 1/16" Tnugsten Red. Set at 80 amps with 10-12 psi Argon. I weld 1/8" Aluminum with a Red 3/32 Tungsten Set at 150 amps with 15-18 psi argon. The higher the amps the more its going to split the tun...

Re: TIG helmet suggestions ?
If you are welding anything with the amps les than 60 i would opt for a Helmet that shades down lower than 9. My Lincoln only shades to 9 and I sometimes can not see when my foot is barley on the peddle doing thin stuff with 60 amps. Metal Man makes a cheap helmwt than shades down to 5

Well, the blocks of alluminum are in a bucket and collecting dust. I will try clean everything real good next time I weld.

Nothing wrong with ground or cables. When it arcs smooth it welds great, I just cant figure out why the arc changes for no reason.

why sometimes it welds smooth and other times very rough?
Machine is Lincoln Precision 225 Tig I am doing production welding with the exact same material one after another. I am tig welding two pieces of 1/8" round tube together with 1/8" piece of flat bar 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". My question is sometimes when i run my bead the arc is extremely...

Re: cleaning aluminum
You have to move the tip of the torch so the arc is hitting each piece evenly. Also I have noticed keeping the tip of the electrode 1/8" away from the metal makes a big difference.

Re: Tungsten tip problems.
I think your right. I think I'm just running past the limits of the 3/32" tungsten. I will try 1/8". Even though I am following Lincolns guide lines for amps, gas and tungsten I am doing production welding. Not giving much time of the foot peddle all day long. My machine after 2 1/2 hrs of...

Re: Tungsten tip problems.
Useing the Lincoln precision tig 225. AC turned all the way on penetration but even when its half way or on full cleaning it does it when I weld with high amps like 140. Lower amps welding 1/16" stuff on 70 amps is fine with the 1/16" Tungsten. The higher amps just seems to screw up the ti...

Tungsten tip problems.
I see videos of tungsten type testing and sharpening. They all seem to get a nice looking ball on the tip but for some reason I can not get a nice ball on the tip to stay. Mine always end up looking like this and I can not figure out why. I am running #7 gas lense. 3/32" Thoriated. 140 Amps on ...

Received my gas lense today that I ordered. Off course the white Teflon spacer did not fit my torch nor did the old one. I had to call the guy from the local shop to stop by with some parts.
