Interesting solution WerkSpace, is it air in at the bottom, out at the top?

Re: SolidWorks
I use Solidworks as part of my job and find it a fantastic tool for developing ideas and testing. The weldments and sheet metal tools are something I have only recently started using but they are worth the time to learn. Steep learning curve with hours to learn more advanced features required. Layou...

Re: what to wear to a welding job interview?
My $0.02 I wouldn't get in my car in my work gear... I have but don't tell the wife :o I wouldn't turn up to an interview in my "pickup" (more rust than steel). Changing for a test after an interview is cool in a setting where it is normal to go to the changing room before going out on the...

Tig welding ventilation
Hi guys,
Stupid question but do you need to provide hood ventilation during tig welding steel/aluminium? Any fumes to be concerned about? (not including galv)
I know tig relies on the gas coverage to provide the oxide-free weld, hence my question.
Thanks
Andy

All great info guys, thanks. Looks like a portaband or cold-saw will go on the wish list!
Is it normal for an abrasive to wander in both directions.. top to bottom of the cut as well as front to back?

Chop Saw
Hey guys, I want to replace the chop saw I have got. It is a $50 special with flimsy steel base which flexes when cutting. This causes cuts to be waaaay off what I want. Recommendations for a home-diy-hobbyist please! Or are there any plans to replace or reinforce the base on one of these? Thanks ht...

Re: Plasma cutting box section
Thanks guys, though that was the case. I am definitely leaning towards a chop saw as it can easily do bevels.
I will ask for chop saw recommendations in another thread.

Plasma cutting box section
Hey guys, I have not bought a plasma cutter yet and have a very basic question.
Can a plasma cutter cut box section in a single pass (say 1" 14 SWG) or does it need to be rotated?
I am guessing a chop-saw is a better solution for cutting?

Hi quvit92, I am not a welder (yet) but what type of welding do you do? The most common process you do will help you find the right certification.

Coming along very well - it's all just practice from here :) Dave's advice is what I recommend at the moment... You have the basics down. Stop putting heavy stock in outside advice, and practice what you've learned so far. Pay attention, as you now know what to look for, what's right and what's not...

Re: Plasma cut templates
Shooting from the hip here... never tried. Could some thick glass, water-jetted to the required shape for plasma cutting work? It maybe possible to stack multiple layers (Epoxy) to get the required thickness if 3/8" not available and you would need to provide an exact template of what you want ...

Re: Beginner with welding
That is looking much better :) Looks a little cold though - I'd like to see it flow out wetter on the sides, if this is 3/32" rods, try 95 or 100 amps and see how that feels. Keep at it and have fun :D Ran a few at 100A, yes it is 3/32" rods. How does it look? Know I need to work on rod a...

Re: Beginner with welding
Oh nice, so would I be "correct" in saying it stacks like 7024, but goes on like 6010? If I had the money, I would trade some 7018 for those 6013's, for shipping. But I'm already in the hole. Lol Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk I just weld it the same as I do 7018 and 7014 - enough ...

Re: HELP!!!
Alright guys today is the day. My Everlast let me down. Everlast Super Ultra 205 tig stick plasma. I finally wired in 220 to our building and hooked it up. It worked perfect all day. I fired it up and went to cut with plasma and it arced one time and died. No power at the terminals. The machine has...

Re: Beginner with welding
I'm still thinking that pipefitters rods are of extreme quality compared to our rods... I don't use them, my personal preference, and I'm sorry for trying to shove it on the rest of you... I didn't take your advice that way. If I had found a pack of 7018 today, that would be on the menu tomorrow. W...

Re: Beginner with welding
Split the seal on another box of 6013. A neighbor had it in his shed and has no use for it.
First thing tomorrow I will run a few beads at different speeds/amps then post them up for crits. I would like to get more feedback on what I am doing right/wrong.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Beginner with welding
Yea, the hunt for 7018 rods will continue today as I'm all out of 6013. Might as well use a rod that can get me somewhere in the long run... my daughter (9) is showing a lot of interest but I need to know the basics before letting her loose :) You're fighting a losing battle bud - lots of people use...
