BTW. Green is not thoriated. It's pure tungsten. It won't hurt the machine-but it's not fun to weld with. Green tungsten likes to form a large round ball on the tip. That negates the advantages of an inverter welder.

You don't mention your budget, or the available space you have. I would personally look for a used Syncowave 250. There are a lot of them out there at reasonable prices. They do a good job at both tig and stick. And, being a transformer machine-they last forever.

You answered your question in your opening post. You stated there was not a lot of tig work, and that they usually got you to do it. So-limit the use of the Dynasty to yourself. Simple enough. And keep that thing covered when not in use. Those circuit boards don't like dust.

A lot of good advice in these replies. I do mostly aluminum and love it. The first thing I would do in your place is lower the frequency to 100. I find that helps on outside corners.

Ok! It's a simple lap joint. There is no need for that excessive stick out. Try going to 1/8 stick out with 18 - 20 cfh. You are getting your cup too far away from the joint for good gas coverage. I would also go to 3/32" tungsten. That is my go to size. Hope this helps! This is based on the #8...

Since argon is heavier than air-if you can make a quick fixture to hold the tubing, and slightly elevate the open end-it will allow the argon to displace the air quicker with less argon used. Hope this helps.

I would recommend the Lincoln Squarewave. It has more amps than the Miller Diversion. I had the Diversion at one time, it's a good machine, but you can't change the torch without a major hassle. I have both the Esab A50, and the Optrel E684. They are both great hoods. They are both very clear and have a large viewing area. The Optrel is better for tig due to it's auto adjustment feature. Both have the same downside-the unique outer cover lens.

I generally keep my tungsten stickout to about 1/8" unless I am trying to get into a hard to reach spot. That allows me to see the tungsten position in relation to the puddle. If I need a longer stickout, then I will switch to a gas lense with a larger cup. Hope this helps.
