Re: Removing Broken Skid Plate Bolt

The washer method works well for me usually all the time. Sometimes it takes a few times welding the nut back to the washer but it works. Burn it in good this will help heat up the bolt and loosen the junk traped in the threads (usually turns the dirt and gunk to dust) I have used some special rods ...

Those empty spools from 33 pound roll of might wire works good too. Have about 100 ft of cable wound up on one?

Re: SS sheet metal

I am having the same problem and I do not have a gas lens or a monster cup so I tried sticking stiles steel wool in my cup to diffuse the gas and it seemed to help a little but my beads were still dark and light gray. But if I rub them with a rag they shine up considerably. I am new to tig welding a...

Have you tried checking the wires all the way from the pins to the potentiometer? See if you are getting a good connection on all wires.

cleaning aluminum

Hey guys I recently bought a dynasty 280dx, got it all set up and in playing with some aluminum it just won't weld. I cleaned the heck out of it with acetone and a ss brush but it won't fuse together. A practice bead looks fine but trying to do a fillet weld and one piece melts and the other wont. B...

Re: hello from Ooltewah Tn

Thanks for the input. No it really wouldn't make much of a difference in our company if I were certified but we are at the moment building a welding truck and a lot of the companies want a "certified" welder. You know how it works in life a piece of paper will get you further these days th...

Re: What would you call this process?

How well did it stick to the copper? From the pic it looks like it is just laying on the pipe. I use 15% to "sweat" fittings on ac units on the side and when the copper gets hot enough the silver solder flows right into the copper. Never tried it with a tig. Interesting

honest tig specs?

I am looking for a tig rig to teach myself to tig. Looking at a dynasty 200dx water cooled. I am in need of some honest answers from members who have one. So here goes I will only ever tig 1/4" aluminum and 3/16 to 1/4 steel/stainless max, will the 200dx handle that ok? Anything over that I wil...

Re: best practice/study info for certification tests

Thanks for the info but I have already read that. Main point being "just show up at any accredited test facility and take a test (having practiced)..... that's it where do I find the practice requirements? Will the test facility tell me the specifics of say a up hill 7018 on 1" plate? So I...

best practice/study info for certification tests

I am new to this forum. Where is the best place to find study material for taking different certifications without going to a school? I have been and currently weld everyday at a family owned business but I am wanting to get some certifications without going to a weld school. Any suggestions?
