Re: Push and Pull debate needs to end

IMG_0075.JPG IMG_0074.JPG I can weld left handed too, but generally speaking my approach is somewhat straight in to a slight push as I watch the metalcore wire burn into the joint. Penetration . . . yeah, I get it. I've been in the rail shop for the last couple of weeks using hard wire and CO2. I t...

Re: Push and Pull debate needs to end

IMG_0078.JPG IMG_0077.JPG I have watched Jody's video several times, and it seems to me that the push technique digs in a little better than the pull does. That being said, I weld structural during the day and tend to use a push technique quite often. PS; I went to attach some pics and cannot find ...

Re: Production welding

Greetings Mr. Jroark, I too welded production at one time with jigs. We ran hot, really hot, just as you are. Just a straight pass with no oscillation makes for a nice smooth bead. I don't think running any hotter than you are you are going to gain anything since you are already in spray arc. Unfort...

Re: fab wire inner sheild

So no one on this forum uses fabwire and can make a recommendation? I have one of those cushy indoor daytime structural welding jobs for my day gig. However, in my side work most of my onsite work is done with T-11 as almost all of it seems to be outside. You do have to make "friends" wit...

Boat trailer conversion

I posted on another thread about converting a boat trailer to cargo trailer. Obviously to do this, it has to be the right trailer to start with. The boat trailer had 2x4x11ga rec tube. The red trailer below I bought from a manufacturer had the 1-1/2 x 3 by whatever they used. I sold it last year the...

Re: trailer squeezer divider whatchamacallit!!!

Well thank goodness for that. I was worried about the poor bull.
Obviously I haven't any experience with farm life. There weren't many bovine on my block
when growing up . . . . or afterwards for that matter. They sure so taste good off of the grill though.

Re: trailer squeezer divider whatchamacallit!!!

OH the joys of AI  And it's always the heifers. ;) Here's another one I can't believe was said. If you're gonna try to inseminate anything other than a heifer (ie: bull, steer) you're gonna have a real bad day. Just an observation! Geeze, I can't quit laughing about this. See what you start...

So the trailer squeezer divider thingy works as planned then. Good, we all like to see a plan come together.

Re: trailer squeezer divider whatchamacallit!!!

I saw the AI done on "Dirty Jobs" at a horse farm. It's not a job for me. I had to train myself to fillet a fish. I have a gag reflex about as long as a finger nail. I'd rather make sparks.

Re: Welding Business

Say Nils, New guy here. I fully understand what you're doing with the new biz. I too am 58 and put together a like operation a couple of years ago. I work it mainly on a part time basis, but I still do alright. Sometimes I'm so busy that I would almost quit my day job. Then there are those times whe...

I can remember thinking that I needed to "baby" it so I didn't set the amperage up very high.
The sound that came from the torch upon start up sounded like a flatulent elephant sitting in a mud puddle.
I learned about this from that!

My introduction

Greetings, I'm Jim. I apologize for not introducing myself prior to my first post. I've always been a bit backward like that. A little background. Production mig and tig welding on things such as big tin cans to diesel exhaust components. I do a bit of side work out of cargo trailer and in my small ...

Re: MIG upgrade opinions

Last week I bought the htp 2400 mig welder because I have a need for the 50ft lead on the spoolgun. It too is a 250 amp welder. The machine works very well. It gets the official thumbs up from me. It comes with the drive rollers for .023 .030 .035 .045. Give it a good look before you make your decis...
