Re: Al pipe TIG question
Answer to your question is really moot unless you know what the WPS sheet calls for. I would assume that a job requiring X=ray NDT will require and provide one. Lets start there, Lots of ways to skin a cat.

Re: Looking for an AC/DC TIG Welder, need advice
Just curious Peter, how much did you end up spending for your rig? ( 200 DX + cooler ). I'm not savy to the conversion to Canadian $$, so U.S. if you could estimate would be great. Yeah I think it's great also to buy american made products, I try to any time I can. But I simply could not throw down ...

Re: Looking for an AC/DC TIG Welder, need advice
I picked up an Everlast Power Tig 250EX, and cannot put enough praise on the capabilities of the machine, and the quality of the arc! Truly one of the finest, most stable arcs ive used in over 30 some years of Tig welding. Let alone the value for your dollar. You can pick one up from Everlast for ar...

Re: Tig .065 tube to a flange
Hi Gashmore, glad your seeing progress and encouraged to do more! First I think Gary may have mis-read just a little, as for stainless you would not be using A/C nor the frequency control. Stainless as you know is done on DCEN. Second, just me but I would be using a 3/32 tungsten on this weld. The t...

Re: chrome moly tubing welded to mild steel
Oh hey, thanx man! Somehow way back when, i managed to log literally 3 or 4 thousand hours of under the hood time on chromoly chassis, frames, aircraft engine mounts, Harley flat track frames, and all of the Red Line BMX stuff back in the late 70's. Fun times for sure! Happy to tell ya anything I kn...

Re: Settings for a Miller Syncrowave 250?
So all is well? Couldn't tell from your post. (Btw 10-12 cfm argon is a lil bit low, try 15+). What color was, or is, your tungsten ending up after a weld? If it's grayish then you likely have a argon flow issue, not enough, or possibly a bad fill in the tank, or not enough post flow? If the tungste...

Re: Need some advice on lap joints
Hey Kerm, .... Congrats on the score ..... not bad. As far as the pulsing, just remember that anytime you "mash" the pedal you are relying on whatever settings you have made on the current, background current, pulse time on etc. It would be as if you were in 2T/4T mode with a remote torch ...

Re: chrome moly tubing welded to mild steel
Darth, without seeing it I would guess the warning or caution that you read about is in regard to the differing tensile strengths of 4130 and mild steel. They have different elongation characteristics under stress. 4130 is stronger but stiffer, or more ridgid if you will. 4130 can become brittle if ...

Re: repair wp20 power /water hose
Hi Dwright, repair probably depends on how bad, or how much of the tubing melted away. Either way the easiest and best way might be just to pop for a new power cable. You can buy it individualy and replace the whole line for low $$.

Re: Need some advice on lap joints
Hey Kermdog, you didn't mention what type of machine your using, but I'll assume it's a transformer based, non pulsing unit. The problem is that you can nestle in nice and tight in the fillet, but if you control your heat as such the rod adds cool the puddle too much, and you cannot get enough of a ...

Re: missing something Al TIG
Don't be so hard on your self, it's always much easier to weld nice clean virgin metal. Sometimes depending on the service life of the material in question, it can really deal suprises, and problems. But it sounds like your on the right track! Like castings, that plate can be so dirty that you may n...

Re: missing something Al TIG
Hey mister, good advice from gurew there, its a little counter intuitive, but too much argon flow can mess ya up as much a too little. Hard to say for sure without seeing what you were getting. Also remember that the bottom of that plate has been pelted with all kinds of Crap. Crap blasted if you wi...

Gooroo, been reading your posts and I'm guessing you must be a very young man. You seem a little too interested in telling everyone what a great welder you are. And if someone posts a pic of their project or progress you immediately post a pic of your "better looking" weld. That is a sign ...

Hey bud! , Yep entirely likely if it was in the earlier part of the 80's. Kind lost track (no pun intended!) of the company after that, Later 80's i think they even started to have them welded overseas! Bummer. Was a really cool company with a really interesting background. Oh yeah, nickle plated at...

To be honest Artisian, that is pretty good tight etching. Not gonna get much less than that me thinks. As for the shiny bead, it's kind of an elusive combo of several things all coming together at once, but namely heat and travel speed. You'll just have to play around until you find what brings that...

Hey there my fushion brotha! I was just posting on the everlast site to someone having trouble with larger od tube to flat filet weld. It takes a lot of torch manipulation ( dexterity ) probably the most of any weld joint. You're juggling torch movement, torch angle, and hold off all at once. And so...

Re: Aluminum hot cracking
Oh yeah, one last thing if i may. Especially if your going to grind the finished weld, forget about the "stack of dimes" thing! Get your dips in there more frequently as the larger steps thin the material build up and by nature stretch it thin. Get in there with 2 dips or adds per second a...

Re: Aluminum hot cracking
You figured thru it on your own my friend, .... good job! The problem you were having was exactly that, ..... not enough filler rod. On the tight fit up it is exactly as ya found. Very tempting, or compelling is maybe a better word, to be skimpy on the build up, and that is exactly what happens. The...

Re: New member here and i have a question
Oh yeah also meant to mention that it may help to go to manual balance and dial it to as much electrode negative you can get away with. A fillet weld by nature can be difficult to get consistant penetration, and more EN will help, as well as focusing the arc ..... less jumping from the vertical face...

Uh your doing fine buddy, just takes practice my friend! On 1/4 material and up pre-heating will help you find a consistant pedal point right off the bat, but thanx to the thermal conductivity of aluminum you can start your arc, bring in a little heat and somewhat slowly move the torch along the sea...

Hi Artisan, know what ya mean it would be nice for a single source for all this stuff. Unfortunately until someone takes the time it's mostly by experience and reading bits here and there.
