Re: Judging weld penetration

Sadly not. The brackets I was welding are now installed...

Essentially on the back side the two halves of the weld were not fused together.

Judging weld penetration

I'm very much still learning how to TIG but enjoying it and starting to dip the tungsten less... I'm struggling with judging how well the puddle has penetrated before moving. Example, doing a butt weld with 1.5mm 304 stainless. I can get a puddle and dab pattern going but then I inspect the other si...

Re: Stainless Filler Selection Charts

I'm just learning at the moment and only have 304. Was just curious to know why so many of these reference charts appear to be inconsistent...

Stainless Filler Selection Charts

I’ve been looking at four different Stainless filler selection charts available on the internet: http://tourismwindow.com/weld/files/Stainless_Steel_Welding_Filler_Metal_Selection_Chart.pdf http://www.advancedweldingsupply.com/documents/STAINLESS%20Filler%20Selector%20Guide.pdf http://www.brazing.co...

Re: Stainless Round Bar

I'll up my gas level and see. Was taking more than a second to get going so bumped it up to 60 and does flow better. I also put the piece more into the vice rather than hanging out the side which helped a lot and then just wire brushed the weld straight after. Finished with a scrotch brite pad. It's...

Stainless Round Bar

I'm still in the early stages of learning to TIG so doing little projects like a torch holder. Making it out of 5mm stainless 304 round bar. My question - When I weld two pieces parallel to each other i.e. down the valley between them, I get a really dull finish around the whole of both rods. I beli...

Re: TIG weld cleaning on stainless steel by hand

Brilliant! Will get me a stainless fine wire wheel and hand brush and give that a crack. Thanks for the information guys! The fabric wrapped around dowel is something I hadn't thought of for this. Will have a play and see how it goes. I've watched the video for Pick & Clean and that looks very s...

TIG weld cleaning on stainless steel by hand

Can anyone recommend a method of cleaning the heat marks off a stainless TIG weld by hand rather than machine? I'm firstly new to TIG but following the videos and learning, and secondly a hobbyist so don't have the money for another machine right now. Got a project I want to do but don't want to jus...
