When I set my Everlast up, I had the same issue. Turned out the hose clamps it came with were worse than sub-par. I made sure to change them out and the problem went away. Could be suckin wind.

Bought plans for an ultralight 20 years ago, built the engine(half VW) and now have all the parts to build the rest. Welding skills are now at the level that I feel good about building the fusealge. We'll see if I can get the garage clean enough to get it built.

More than ever I need to save space, and it's a one and half car garage. The house sits on top of the foundation, above ground. The stove pipe/chimney would need to go up 20'+. Putting the stove outside avoids all the BS and insurance issues. Couple hundred bucks in copper and an excuse to weld.

It's not going in. I'll wrap copper tube around it and a radiator in the garage with a fan behind it. Insulated outside of course and glycol in the system.

Nothing fancy, but after I wrap copper around it and build the radiator box, it should take the edge off this winter.

After re-reading the OP, are you sure that you're not expecting the arc and beads to behave the same as steel? they are different; as to the edge melting back, a heat sink would be of great value. The other thing that helps me focus when welding alu. is to where ear plugs. Alu. welding is noisy!! Yo...

Turn the balance to 8 and watch the trouble go away, or is that where you've got it? 3, or balanced is for DC as you know. I could be wrong on the setting, but at this point there seems little left to be wrong,and, as was stated above the electrode could be splintered.

If it's a used machine, it might be the points for the high freq. start need cleaning and re-gapping.
Same thing happens with my Syncro 250 I've welded with with for years.
Quick search shows .15 for your machine.

Get your A&P, then go for the IA; you can inspect your own work.

Thanks tweake. The machine did not come with the plug end, but does suggest a 50 amp end. My old house has a 100 amp service and need to put in the new breaker/circuit for the machine. I have the patience to make it right.
