Re: Dry-cut saws, revisited.
I have a Makita LC1230. Great saw. Very fast, accurate and the disks last a lot even after abuse (I have even used mine to cut 50mm diameter Ck45 solid rod as well as solid 60mm 5083 aluminum rod) However I am not sure dry cut saws are the best solution if someone has to do a lot of cutting on stain...

Welcome mate.
PS. Now look what you made me do. I thought it was g'day but it seems gidday is a variant spelling. Oh well, Aussies can't live with em and sending them off to a deserted island did not work

Re: Auto darkening lens for pipeliner hood
I am with Steve on this one. I have both an ArcOne SS240 and 2 Speedglas 9100XX filters. I have the ArcOne in my leather monkey mask. It works just fine and is very clear however I do not like its colour since it is orange and I prefer green. The same goes for lots of other welders that have tried m...

Re: Kemppi TIG Welding
I have a Kemppi MasterTig MLS 2300 AC/DC with the ACX panel. As it was already said it has a higher output than the Miller and Lincoln and a lot better duty cycle. It also has a few more features the others don't have (eg Mix Tig) but almost every machine will have some features the others don't hav...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Just finished instructing a training course on pipe welding with cellulosic electrodes. No pics but I shot a video experimenting on how to film arc shots. The first part is filmed through a Schott Athermal gold 11 shade lens and the latter through a speedglas 9100xx trying various shades but ending ...

I have the same machine.
The frequency in your photo is not the AC frequency but the pulse frequency.
If you are still figuring out your machine I would suggest you take out the pulse. Press the button below the synergic light until all the lights are switched off.

You can sign the visual reports but not because you are a welding engineer. See guideline 6/7 Question: Does the concept of non-destructive testing as mentioned in Annex I section 3.1.3 also cover visual examination? Answer: No. Consequently, section 3.1.3 in Annex I is not applicable to personnel u...

Re: Single pass butts
I have seen welders finish more than 30 4" SCHD 40 joints in a 10 hour day all tig in the 5G position.
It was 2 passes though not one and I doubt anyone can do it in one pass and still pass RT.

Re: Fantastic tungsten grinder
If you go for a corded model such as the 3000 you can easily buy it new for less than 50 euros. Most people anyway will already own a dremel. The cheapest Sharpie grinder I could find on 220V was the fixed angle model (20 degree only) at 300 euros + shipping so we are talking about a big difference ...

Fair enough. Me on the other hand do not like the amber colour of the arcone for example.
I have tried every colour possible including the white-blue of the original gold athermal passive lenses and still prefer the speedglas.

Fantastic tungsten grinder
There is a bloke on a UK forum that has made a tungsten grinder attachment that can be used on a Dremel. After a lot of requests he started making them and selling them to people. I already own a tungsten grinder but I liked Stu's idea so much and the fact that I would not rely on super expensive pr...

Mike you are just being too kind. Thin stuff is completely the opposite of what I am used to welding and presents quite a challenge for me. How you guys manage to make such beautiful consistent beads on thin material is beyond me. I can only do it on thicker stuff where you just turn up the heat and...

I have an ESG Orbitalum https://www.arc-zone.com/azc-scip/Triad_Orbitalum_ESG-Plus_Tungsten_Grinder_790-052-486.jpg I cannot fault it but to be honest it cost a lot more than someone should have to pay to grind their tungsten. Apart from its obvious use it helps me showcase the difference tungsten a...

I use a hand switch or even scratch start for all my steel pipe welding. The only time I will use a pedal welding pipe is for aluminum or on the bench.
