Re: why is this happening with my alloy welds?
I have a kemppi 2300 Do t get me wrong I didn't just jump in to practicing on this corner piece I have done a fair bit of stee and stainless and even alloy but I wouldn't say I'm a pro at anything. I don't have a pic of the other side of that work piece but it's basically identical outside corner an...

Re: why is this happening with my alloy welds?
Thanks for the advice
From memory I'm at 1.5 sec pre flow
I'm surprised you think that the ball I have is huge? I thought I should aim for more than that... i wonder what others think maybe others use a larger ball?

Re: why is this happening with my alloy welds?
Thanks Yeah I'm running 75-80% balance, the part is a bit of weird shape and prob not prime for a beginner but I just have to get it done, what do you do to counter a outside corner then? More gas flow? Also would you trade having more electrode stick out on this outside corner rather than more torc...

why is this happening with my alloy welds?
i get a nice clean puddle happening but as soon as i put my filler in its turns to crap., through the mask it looks like the filler rod is melting "outside" of the puddle and then my arc gets a greenish type of colour to it almost like it does when i touch the electrode into a puddle by mi...

Kemppi AC Balance
Hi guys im having trouble understanding how to set ac balance on my Kemppi 2300, basically the balance is set from 0 to -50 but i cant relate it back to settings which are used for say a miller which has percentages. Furthermore, im trying to take someones advice and set my balance to 80% and they u...

Re: Bubbles the chimp!!
I never put a brass filter on my purge line like you did In the above pic, would this be a problem? I would think it's going to fill the enclosed space your purging regardless so is it needed?

Re: Bubbles the chimp!!
The reason it takes longer than one might think, is that the argon while initially denser than the air, it is really just a matter of time as it inter-mixes with the air. Argon cannot stay separated from the air it is displacing, for if it could, it would separate on it's own in our own atmosphere, ...

Re: Bubbles the chimp!!
Thats actually made me remember something i was busting to ask... Last time i did a stainless pipe i did purge, i gave it a minute to fill with gas before i started and yet there was still a few parts that were sugary around the weld, I put it down to either i didn't give it long enough to fill or t...

how do guys fit up exhaust pipe?
Basically I'm just wondering what you guys do with your thinner pipes, i understand that when using thick walled pipe especially for something like a exhaust manifold you would grind back the edges for more penetration but when fitting up the rest of the exhaust or even intercooler piping do you guy...

Re: Bubbles the chimp!!
thanks for that, Yeah well i do find it hard to rig on pipe, especially such small pipes, and the flange sections were a bitch because it exaggerated the torch angle problem, some times its just straight up hard to get in there with the torch on the right angle. eg. if there is a 90deg bend i can do...

Re: Bubbles the chimp!!
kiwi2wheels I dont think its the electrode because.... I have used it before, i made up the whole set of pipes with two electrodes from the same pack and 90% of the welds were fine, a couple days ago i bought a new pack of 2% from a diff supplier (reputable) and these pics are the result. Poland308 ...

Bubbles the chimp!!
Hi guys, Ive attached some pics, ive encountered this a couple times and im not sure if its contaminants or a shielding problem, I have a #8 gas lense and 3/32 thoriated 2% electrode on these welds and it just turns to crap. Basically the job is a set of mild steel headers, i can be welding away and...

Re: Setting up for back purge
ok thanks for that,
So do you think its worth me taking back the rod they sold me and asking for 308 or should i not bother for something as non crucial as exhaust?

Re: Setting up for back purge
Thanks for that Len,
Is there a good reference chart or something I can go by for filler rod?
Is there a consequence of having too much gas flow other than wasting gas?

Re: Setting up for back purge
And to add to my bitching, I asked the guy to give me a run down on how filler rod part numbers work etc etc and i said i would like some more rod to suit me welding 304 to 304 ss and that i wanted the same that the other guy who works there recommended i buy last time because i don't know my head t...

Re: Setting up for back purge
heres some better pics
Im at a loss as to what to do as I'm hoping to get it up and running by tomorrow so i can get welding over the weekend.
I'm sure its an easy fix, just as I'm sure a baboon would have a damn hard time boiling a egg
