Re: 2" socket welds

I don't disagree that 3/32 in.is a good choice for the size of the filler wire,but,1/16in. is also a correct choice.Being new at welding, 1/16 in. could also be a correct choice.....ron

Re: tungsten contamination

why would you want to scratch start the weld process when you have HF? if you have a foot control, place tungsten within 1/16 IN. from work, the HF will start the arc,no tungsten contamination. You should be using pure tungsten, so no need to sharpen, just break off the contamination part and start w...

a 2in.sch.80 pipe has a nominal wall thickness of .218in.,Depending on the end use, and pressure, the min.weld size would be Tx2T, T being the wall thickness, and 2T would be twice the wall thickness. or, .218in.x.436in. the pullout should be aprox. 1/16 in.( this eliminates stress on the completed ...

Re: Tig vertical help

mig or tig? never heard of walking the cup while mig welding.....If mig, lead gun aprox.3 to 5 deg., and try increasing amperage if the weld doesn`t want to flatten out,the force of the arc can force the molten puddle forward, resulting in a flatter weld. If you are new at welding, try your own tech...

Great welding machine, old but a nice stable arc. I have welded many corner joints and can give you a methods that work for me; The edges have to be clean and metal to metal fit, no gaps. Re: Tube welding- looking to get to the next level?

Washing over a weld to smooth its surface without adding filler wire is not a recommended process, it could weaken the joint because of the heat input. metallurgical changes, and grain growth. You could add additional weld then contour to a smooth surface. This creates a lot of additional work, but ...

Re: Brass buildup on 1/16" thick material.

DO NOT USE WATER.welding and h2o do not like each. You can purchase some heat sink material from your local weld shop or auto body shop. its like a clay substance. I think one trade name is " heat fence". If the brass has a lot of zinc in it,it will let you know with a lot of white smoke, ...

any metal will work if you don't direct the arc on the backup material. The molten aluminum will not bond to any metal , its not hot enough. I don't know the metric system, but ,never exceed 15 lbs. pressure on the secondary stage of the regulator, because acetylene is unstable above the 15 lbs.and could detonate. also, always keep the acetylene bottle in an upright position. Re: TIG welding - learn. !!

My observation and recommendations would be as follows:1,too much heat input,it appears that you are not cooling the base metal between passes.the base metal should be below 350 degrees between passes. compressed air works great. 2, the use of a gas lens would improve the argon flow from the torch. ...

What joint type are the tests, open root, closed root, backing ring, and what type of inspection is required? Hint, cut the filler wire in half so it will be easier to control, because of the small pipe diameter, you will be out of position before you could burn a complete rod. If you are allowed to...

When practicing as per your picture, increase your speed and always start a new weld bead on a cool part of your test plate. Also,if the test plate is too thin, there isn't enough material to reduce the temperature of the weldment (bead) after the bead is exposed to the air. The dark color on the bea...
