You could use Teflon PTFE sheet plastic, From McMaster-Carr: "PTFE has a slippery surface and surpasses most plastics when it comes to chemical resistance and performance in extreme temperatures. It resists most solvents. This material is also an excellent electrical insulator and can be used o...

Re: Table saw cart...

Top Job Glen I like the combination of mobility and stabilized positioning. In this garage, it's a necessity, the floor is so uneven... Also, it needs the stability when you are trying to run a 4'x8' sheet of 1" MDF. The levelers almost don't retract enough to clear the irregular surfaces... T...

Wasn't easy, but got the saw onto the cart! Next, plywood/osb on the bottom for storage and the support for the table.

Re: New Utility trailer: how to weigh the trailer w/o axle?

Do the math, it should get you close. Tack the axle in place and take it to be weighed... cut the tack welds and reposition as needed. My guess is you will want the axle close to the center of the "utility" part of the trailer or just slightly aft.... you don't want the tongue to get too h...

Re: what to wear to a welding job interview?

It really depends on the company and job. You could call the company, ask the receptionist what the dress code is for the office. Dress conservatively towards that, equal or slightly deviating, but over dressing is not necessary. You don't want to go buy clothes you may never wear again. Many compan...

Is there a possible ground issue with the part the plug weld is not sticking? A good ground on both parts is important Based on Jody's charts, you target would be, .059"~60A .... 60x3.5=210ipm Based on my recent Handler 150 measurements and looking at the specs, you should be good starting on T...

When you get older all things change ... I need reading glasses with my corrective lenses, but they are only good for reading or computer, etc. For the fine detail work, I need "More Power!" :D I have 2.25 in my helmet and works pretty good for TIG ... they do narrow the in-focus range, bu...

Re: MIG upgrade opinions

The more time I spend trying to decide on just what I want or can get, the more options I try to rationalize... currently I am directing my interest towards a used XMT 304CC/CV or XMT 350CC/CV ($1000-$1400) and possibly a new 24A wire-feeder with the Bernard Q-gun (951195 ~$1800). The new 24A with d...

Re: Mig Welding Basics part 3

I discovered what I think is my answer to wire feed speeds... My Hobart feed motor voltage is supplied by the tap output. Based upon the tap voltage, welding current changes voltage. For example, tap 3 open voltage is 25v, however the volt - ampere curve indicates 22v @50A, 18v@100A and 16V@150A... ...

Re: How to flush a water cooler ( coolermate 3 )

Back in the '60s, I would use distilled water with a water pump lubricant... amazing how clean the engine stayed! In SoCal didn't really need freeze protection. IIRC, plain water conducts heat better than "antifreeze".... not sure about the welding coolants... Tap water has way too many mi...

Re: Mig Welding Basics part 3

Going through the wire speed measuring process, I find that the measured speeds are so high that I should not be able to use .035 wire at all (based on the correlation of wire speed and wire size to amps). My Hobart Handler 150, supposedly, can max out at 175 amps. With the .035 wire factor of 1.6&q...
